Police believe Anthony Wynkoop, who turns 23 today, ordered the attack because the woman involved was his girlfriend, Tempe police spokesman Sgt. Dan Masters said. Wynkoop remains at large and may be with his girlfriend, 18-year-old Celista Dugger.

The suspect is extremely dangerous, Masters said. He has a short fuse and a history of going into fits of rage.

The incident began with the 22-year-old victim, Donald Todd, speaking with Dugger. The two sometimes rode the same bus to their jobs at Arizona Mills mall.

Then, said Masters, four men broke into the victims apartment May 2 in the 900 block of West Second Street. He was hit, slashed and shot multiple times yet survived. When the attackers fled, the victim staggered to a neighbors residence.

Masters said an investigation resulted in the arrests of Jonathan Bagby, 22, on May 11; Todd Remine, 22, on May 28; and Donald Roberts, 27, on June 7.

When the men were arrested, at least one expressed surprise that the victim had survived, Masters said.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Wynkoop or Dugger is encouraged to call Tempe police at (480) 350-8311 or Silent Witness at (480) 948-6377.

Tempe police are searching for a 300-pound suspect in the attempted murder of a man who was shot, stabbed several times and left for dead near Hardy Drive and Second Street.

The victim survived the May 2 incident, police said Friday.

The suspect Anthony Wynkoop, 23, is considered armed and extremely dangerous and has an extensive criminal history, said Sgt. Dan Masters, a Tempe police spokesman.

Police have arrested other suspects in the incident, which began when the beating victim had what police described as an innocent conversation with Wynkoop's 18-year-old girlfriend while they both rode to work at Arizona Mills mall on a Valley Metro bus.

Masters said police are not releasing the victim's name because he fears Wynkoop. He said the victim has left Tempe and is in hiding.

Wynkoop's nickname is Alize. He is described as an African-American male, 5 feet 9 to 6 feet 1, with green eyes, black hair, a mustache or goatee and a hoop piercing his lower lip. Police said he has a record of domestic violence.

Anyone with information about Wynkoop is asked to call police at (480) 350-8311 or Silent Witness at (480) WITNESS.
