Ch.7 Shadow Creatures
“Jessica! Wait up!” Jacob panted as he chased after her through the hallways. She stopped as he got closer.
“Hey.” He panted when he got within hearing range.
“Hey?” Jessica chuckled, “After what, seven years, all you can say is hey?”
“How are you?” Jacob tried. Jessica laughed.
“Still haven’t changed. I’m doing good, Jacob Matthew Hess. I’ve missed you.” She said, locking eyes with him, and hugging him again.
“I’ve missed you too.” Jacob said, giving her a bear hug.
“Jacob?” Jessica asked.
“Yeah?”
“I can’t breathe.” She gasped.
“Oh. Sorry.” He let go. They stood there for a couple of minutes in silence. Then...
“JACOB!”
Jacob turned around. Aisha, Becky and Kelly were walking to Jake and Jessica.
“Friends of yours?” Jessica asked.
“Yeah. Well, one could be the embodiment of evil” Jacob explained.
“You don’t know evil.” Jessica said grimly. Jacob turned to look at her, but the others had gotten closer.
“Yeah, well. Jessica, this is Kelly.” He said. The two shook hands.
“Becky.” The same.
“And last, but not least, Aisha.”
When the two shook hands, they locked eyes as well. Both had a look of anger, and looked like they were trying to break the others hand off. Eventually, they broke off.
“Look, I gotta go. Some things....come up.” Jessica said. She turned and walked away quickly.
“What the hell was that all about?” Becky asked.
“Don’t know what you mean.” Aisha said, panting slightly.
“Yeah right! If we would have left you two alone, you might have killed each other!” Kelly exclaimed. Jacob silently agreed.
“I dunno. Its just that when I looked at her, I felt so, I dunno, angry.” Aisha tried to explain.
“Feel the same way about Itamo.” Jacob grumbled, in agreement. Becky turned to Kelly, and just shrugged.
“Lets go.” Jacob said eventually, “We have to go to the Dojo for training.”
The others agreed, and they began walking. They went through the city, looking at the shops and stores along the way.
“At least it Friday.” Kelly said brightly. The others agreed. Two days of nothing sounded great.
“GET OUT OF THE WAY!” A man screamed, running by. In fact, many of the citizens were running the opposite way, trying to get away from something.
“What the...” Becky began before she was cut off by a large explosion.
“Lets check it out.” Jake said, summoning his staff. The others did the same. Aisha sprouted small wings and held a sword. Becky with a gun and whip. Kelly had a snow board strapped to her back and a chain scythe in her hand. They ran down the sidewalk, the sounds of destruction getting louder.
An overturned car was in the middle of the street, on fire. Circled around it were little black creatures, with small feelers that wiggled and touched the car.
“What the hell are those?” Becky asked, pointing her gun at the nearest one.
“No idea. But we can’t just let them destroy the place. Be careful” Jacob murmured to the girls.
As if hearing them, the creatures turned, they yellow eyes looking soulless. They appeared to have no mouths, but their feelers were constantly twitching. Suddenly one of them lunged.
There was a resounding CRACK as Becky flicked her whip and the creature burst into flame, and disappeared.
“Screw that plan, attack!” Becky shouted. She unloaded a few shots at the creatures, each disappearing upon impact.
Aisha was slicing through the creatures, accompanied by gusts of wind from her wings.
Kelly was twirling her chain scythe, freezing the creatures and then breaking the ice, destroying them were they stood.
The earth reared up as Jacob slammed his staff into the ground. He knocked several more of the creatures down, destroying them.
“How many of them are there?” Aisha asked, beheading two more.
As if they heard her, the rest all disappeared.
“Wow. Too weird” Kelly said, staring at the carnage of the street. “Lets clean this up.”
Becky got rid of the fire while Jacob flipped the cars back over. Aisha used gusts of wind and Kelly bursts of water to clean the streets. When they were done. They ran to the Dojo
