Chapter 13, Opening Up
Chapter 13, Opening Up

The next morning, after everyone had left and Jacob had gone to bed, he woke up. He walked to the bathroom stiffly, his head swimming. He looked in the mirror, and groaned. His face was pale, and his nose and eyes were red and puffy. He sniffed, his nose clogged, and took his shower.

After getting dressed, he headed outside to the field. In a whirl of sand and dirt, he disappeared. He appeared behind the school, walking groggily to where Kelly, Aisha and Becky where.

“Wow. You look like crap.” Becky said bluntly, staring at the dark haired boy.

“Thanks. I was wondering how I was going to damage my self esteem today.” Jacob said, rolling his eyes. He sniffed loudly.

“She’s right, you really do look sick.” Kelly said, getting up and placing the back of her hand against his forehead. Then she pulled back quickly. “Your hot!”

“Well your pretty cute too.”

“You know what I mean, Jake. I think you should go home.”

“No.” He said flatly. “I haven’t been sick since Fifth Grade. I don’t plan on starting now.”

Then he sneezed.

The effect was immediate. The earth exploded around him, sending large boulders into the air. All three of the girls sat wide eyed and, (in Becky’s case) hair on end.

“Oh shut up!” Becky shouted, smoothing her hair back down as Kelly and Aisha laughed. With a growl, she turned to Jacob.

“BK is right. You need to go home.”

“I said no, and that’s final!” He said. Becky opened her mouth, but the bell rang.

“Lets go.” She said, grabbing her bag and storming off into the school.

Kelly and Aisha shrugged their shoulders, and followed her into the school with Jacob in tow.

The day went by as usual. Except for Jacob’s constant sneezes that caused random explosions throughout the day.

In his last class, English, he didn’t sneeze at all. Until halfway through the class period.

“All right class. Now today the poem we’re going to study will be by Robert Frost. Now. Can anyone tell me any of the poems he wrote?” Mr Hall, his English teacher asked.
A few people raised their hands.

Then Jacob sneezed again.

Outside, there was a huge explosion, sending debris flying everywhere.

Mr. Hall, who had been hearing these explosions all day, turned wearily to the noise, and stared.

“Well class. I believe that is our signal to leave, as obviously something is wrong with the school grounds. Off you go.”

The students sat their in disbelief. They were getting out an hour early.

“I SAID LEAVE!” He roared.

The students scattered like mice.

Jacob trudged through the hallways, looking for the rest of the gang. The hall began to thin out, the flood of students turning into a trickle, until they were all gone.

Jacob felt something coming at him, and turned quickly. He was flung back hardly, sent flying through the glass entrance door outside.

He got up groggily.

“If my reaction time is that slow, maybe I should have stayed home.” He said, rubbing his head gingerly.

“You should have.” A voice said, standing in the doorway.

“Itamo. If when I’m sick is the only way you can beat me.” Jacob said with a glare.

“Best to kick a dog when its down, eh?” He asked with a smirk.

“Right.” Jacob said. He clapped his hands, his staff appearing. The white haired boy pulled his staff from his sheath, holding it at the ready.

“Lets just get this over with and let me kick your butt.” Jacob said twirling his staff. In a flash, he was gone, behind Itamo. He brought his staff down, only to have it blocked by the boy’s sword.

“You’ve gotten faster. But of course, I’m at my weakest right now.” Jacob said with a smirk. Itamo growled, and turned around, slamming his palm into Jacob’s chest and sending him backwards once again.

“All right. I don’t have time for this! Stone Golem!” Jacob shouted.

All the broken earth and stones around them began to rumble, and move to in front of Jacob. All of the debris began to come together and take shape.

It was a large stone man, featureless in face and body definement. It looks more like a bulky stick figure then anything else.

Itamo stared. The creature had to be at least thirty feet tall. It seemed to have no eyes or anything. No defining body parts aside from arms, legs and a head.

“Like it? Its my Stone Golem. All the earth and rocks to form one entity. And the best part? It likes me. So I don’t think you hitting me through that door was a good idea.” Jacob smirked.

The Golem stared, if that was the proper word, at Itamo. Recognization hit it, and it pulled back its large arm. It took aim at Itamo, and let it fly, hitting the white haired boy full on and sending him flying.

The second Itamo could no longer be seen, he dropped down to one knee, gasping for breath. The Stone Golem crumbled to small rocks, disintegrating.

“That took too much power. But, it was worth it.” He panted.

The earth reared up and swallowed the panting boy, leaving no trace of the battle that had happened .

At the Mansion, the earth opened up, and a dizzy Jacob walked out of a large hole in his front lawn. To tired to do anything but walk, he left the hole there, and stumbled through the lawn up to the front door.

He was able to push the large oak doors open, but with difficulty. Oddly enough, he met no maids or servants, and the front hall was empty.

Groggily, he headed up the stairs through the hallway to his room.

“Where have you been?” Kelly asked as Jacob pushed his door open. He didn’t say anything, but brushed past her to his bed, where he immediately fell onto it.

“Wow. He doesn’t look good, does he?” Becky asked, looking over at him.

Shizu burst into the room, a worried expression on his face.

“Is he here? One of the maids told me she had seen him enter the front doors.” He said.

“He’s right here. But he looks like he’s getting worse.” Aisha said, biting her lip.

“Right. Well, we need to get him to a hospital or something. Dr. Shen is too far away for him to get here quickly. Come on then, lets get him up.” Shizu told the girls.

It wasn’t easy. Jacob was heavy and he wasn’t helping them. He was almost fighting.

“Stop. My head hurts.” He grumbled, trying to lay back down. “Leave me alone.”

Finally, Shizu had enough. He grabbed he boy and lifted him bodily into the air. He set him down and all three of the girls gathered around him to help get Jacob through the house.

After a little while, they were out the backdoor and walking across the back field.

“Stop! My head hurts so much!” Jacob shouted, grabbing his head . He shook his arms and broke away from the girls, managing to get a few steps before collapsing on the ground, clutching his head.

The girls began to run forward to help him up, but Shizu stopped them .

“Wait! Can’t you feel the earth shaking?” He asked. Indeed it was. The earth was shaking wildly, falling trees and shaking boulders.

Suddenly, a circle of large metal spikes appeared around Jacob, reaching high into the air.

“What the Hell are those?!?” Becky shouted.

Before anyone could anser, more spikes began to shoot up out of the ground.

“Back!” Shizu shouted. He jumped high into the air as a spike shot out right from under him. The girls did likewise, jumping back away from the metal spikes.

Except for Kelly. She jumped high into the air, and in a glittering of frost, summoned her snow board. She slid down one of the spikes, trying to get closer to the boy as more and more of the spikes rose up out of the ground. She kicked off of the spike and onto another one, sliding down it to make progress to another.

In seconds, she was upon the boy, almost within the untouched circle he was in.

“Jacob!” She shouted as she landed beside him.

He didn’t seem to hear her. He just continued to clutch his head.

Kelly dropped to her knees and hugged the boy, trying to comfort him.

“Sssh. It’s all right.” She whispered gently.

“It hurts.” He mumbled.

Kelly hugged him tightly, rocking back and forth gently as she whispered to him.

The spikes were still coming up, but slower now. After a minute they stopped completely .

Then Jacob blacked out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He awoke in his bed, sitting blinking his eyes slowly. Kelly was standing over him, a wet cloth in her hand, dabbing at his forehead.
“Kelly?” He asked groggily. He tounge felt furry.
“Yeah?” She asked, continuing to dab at his head.
“Well. This is a switch. Last time I was the one doing this to you.” He said with a dry chuckle.
Kelly let out a small smile and a small chuckle.
“So, you saved me?” He asked, avoiding her eyes.
She nodded slightly, wringing out the cloth setting it aside.
“Thanks.” He told her. She nodded again. She seemed like she wanted to say something, but kept her mouth closed.
“What is it?” He asked.
“Jake. I think you need someone to look after you.” She blurted out.
Jake looked at her, nonplused..
“But I have Squabbles. He takes care of me.” He said with a confused look.
“No! Not like that!” Kelly said, grabbing his hand. “Someone to look after you at all times! Like....a girlfriend.” She said, blushing and turning away.
Jacob blushed as well as the realization hit him.
Slowly, she turned back to him, still blushing. Their eyes met. Jake propped himself up on his elbows as Kelly leaned in twords him.
And their lips brushed together. It lasted for a few seconds before both of them pulled away, blushing harder then they were before.
“I uh...I think its time for me to go.” She said, not able to hide the broad smile on her face.
“Ok, I’ll see you tomorrow?” He asked, smiling as well.
“Of course.” She said. She let go of his hand reluctantly and went out the door.
The next morning, Kelly awoke with a sneeze, freezing over half her room.
“I think she got my cold.” Jacob said with a chuckle as Aisha and Becky both laughed
Ok! This Chapter did not take as long to post!
So finally Jacob and Kelly are together. Those of you who haven't figured it out yet, Jacob can now control Metal, and offshot element of Earth.
Writing the romance scene in this was difficult for this chapter! Mostly cause Kelly is gonna read this and I didn't wanna put something bad into this @w@ I had to run everything by her first!
Hope you enjoyed it!
