Godi's daily ponderings
The events of the day that I feel are important, my thoughts on certain subjects, the occasional rant and whatever else I feel the urge to write about.
Three day canoe trip
Just back from my three day canoe trip, and I've got much to tell *nods*

So yeah, it would have been totally awesome if two things had been different. One, the weather had been a little warmer. Two, one of you guys had been there. My little sister and her friends did get more than a little annoying.

We rented these uber cool sleeping bags. They were mummy bags (look kinda like a sarcophagus [sp?], with a drawstring around the face) and they were sooooo warm and cozy. They had these things that tightened up around your neck to trap the heat from your body in the sleeping bag. but yeah, they were so roomy. I could probably have fit another entire person in there (it had this thing that zipped out and made the bag even bigger eek whoa!)

So yeah, portaging was somewhat of a challenge. The dads got to carry the canoes, and we carried the rest. I usually ended up with my pack, the tent, paddles, life jackets and sometimes the food bags. It's not hard, but you do start to hurt a little if you have to do a 1km protage, there and back 3 times, with a load on your back for half the time.

The paddling wasn't tough, so that was good. The one time we put my sister up front in the canoe, she misses a whole bunch of rocks that almost put a hole in the bottom of the canoe and nearly tip us. Gah! And then when my dad was trying to tell her what to do so we can get unstuck from the rock she starts bitching about how she's not an idiot and can figure it out blah blah blah.

The campsites were pretty cool. One had this table and chairs that had been built up out of rocks. Very Flinstones-esque 3nodding Ug, the bathroom was DISGUSTING!!! I mean, you really couldn't even call it that. It was a wooden box with a hole in the top, sitting on top of a pit full of other people's s**t. And it was in pretty clear view of everyone else in the campsite too, so not cool. Put it this way, you only went if you REALLY had to, and you made it FAST! *shudders*

The sights there were pretty beautiful though. For the second day, we were in a river/lake thing down the middle of a gorge and you were surrounded by these massive cliffs and trees. Some of them were long dead, grey and contorted because of the weather. They were beautiful in an eerie kind of way...

And during one of the portages, we came to this little waterfall, so we all climbed about halfway down it and took some pictures. It was pretty awesome. I just love the sound of it.

Not so cool though, was when my dad let the canoe slip a little when I was getting in, so I got a foot in the lake all the way up to my calf. Because it was so cold out, it stayed that way for the rest of the trip.

Oh, and I got a little windburnt this morning on the last bit of our trip. The thing that sucks about it is that, unlike a sunburn, this won't turn into a tan *cries* Lol, at least it won't give me skin cancer >.<

Man, your trip sounds fun! I miss canoe trips crying .

aww, that sux that your sisters friends were there. I can't stand my brothers friends so i can imagine hoe annoying that musta been.

Hahaha, you had to deal with a thunderbox!(the shitbox thing). Lyra will know what this is, you encounter them alot on out trips.

You're lucky you didn't have to portage the actual canoe. Damn thoses things are heavy! 'Specially if you get lost with one for 2 hours.

I love those mummy sleeping bagamathings! We own two, though apparently not as fancy as the ones you had. An extra person? I gues for people who want to be...friendly...while camping. weird. whatever.

Anywho, glad you had fun.
