Baby spies
a sparkling gem,
winking in the
sunlight.
He scoops it up
and stows it
in his tiny mouth.
Licking sticky fingers,
warm cherry sauce
dripping from his
hands;
the down-turned corners of his
mouth.
The precious treasure is safe
