Tyson isint getting this chicken! True story |

WELL. I'm still in disbelief myself but okay as most of my friends know I work at a truck stop, where I meet all sorts of people. But most are regular customers that I see on a daily basis.
So this one driver works for Tyson hauling chickens. I had been giving him a hard time lately telling him when he comes in, "Are you still carrying around all those chickens?" And the next time I might tell him, "You know, I think you just like driving around with those chickens." (Cause all the chickens look the same and there are about 5,000 in a load)
Anyway, I was half joking when I told him that I wanted a chicken the other night, and this morning when he came in he told me, I left a present for you outside.
I was like, Hugh? You left me a present? He said yeah that chicken came diving out at me while I was pumping fuel, so I put him out there under a milk crate for you.
Really? You put a chicken out there? So we walked out there and sure enough there's a huge white chicken under a milk crate.
Well of course I brought her home with me, She would be in the freezer by now if I wouldnt have! I love animals what can I say..
So now I am the proud owner of a farm animal! My daughter already named her Daisy.
And she's so cute when you walk in the room she makes quiet little chicken noises. And when you talk to her, you can pet her head and everything.
She's not up and about, I think she hurt her leg when she fell down from the truck. But she did stand up once, but then sat back down again after a bit.
I'm sure she's had it rough, alot of her feathers are missing then of course falling from a truck, and being all squished up in a tiny little cage forever.
Ah, I feel good about it, but I have to get some chicken feed, right now she has waffles, crackers and frosted flakes in a bowl.
But my mom is friends with a guy that raises chickens so he gave us chicken advice.
And she's excited about having a chicken too.
She actually knows a woman at work that who's rooster just died, but I dont think were giving it away.
My daughter absolutely loves it, she is an egg fanatic. Chickens only second to eggs, she couldnt believe her eyes this morning when I walked her in the room where the chicken is.
She stopped dead in her tracks and she was like, "How did that get in here?"
I told her that I brought it. "Is it alive?" She wanted to know ^.^
I told her it was, and then of course she wanted to know "Will it peck you?"
So I told her to go and pet it on the head, she said No. lol.
She ate her cereal with the chicken and she keeps going in to check on her every so often.
So cute smile
Dont ask me where I'm going to keep it. I cant keep it outside, I'd have to build a chicken coop. And I dont know if there's zoning rules here about keeping a chicken or a chicken coop.
Maybe I can build something inside like a chicken coop, and build some kind of wire enclousure for her to go outside in during the day.
I dunno yet, but we own a chicken! How about that.

UPDATED!
The chicken, who remained aptly named.. "Chicken" ended up moving in with a friend at my mom's work who had chickens. She had recently just lost her rooster, and we thought it would be a nice place for chicken to go and live.(and it's still unknown to me whether it was a boy or a girl chicken.)
We knew she was not going to be able to live here anymore when one morning about 6am we heard the strangest noise... come to find out it was Chicken! She/He was flapping his wings, and doing what sounded like, trying to crow!!
Oh man, it was funny. It was becoming tiresome changing the paper on the screened in porch, and the stronger chicken got, she began scratching at the paper and pecking at it, like chickens do you know, out in the barnyard.
Well needless to say we called the lady from my mom's work that afternoon and she said she would love to have Chicken. I made her promise not to eat her and she told me that wouldnt be a problem because she's a vegetarian! isnt that great!
The chicken, though much younger than her own chicken (Sorry if that's confusing, but that's what I meant to type smile ) Was three times the size of her chicken. I guess all the steroids they pumped into her.. poor thing.
But at least she got a chance! She would have been dinner long before now, but she is living happily in the backyard with some other chickens now smile She will still come up to you and eat out of a bowl, and let you pet her. This lady had never petted her chickens before, lol. She thought it was funny that this one would let you pet it.. and yes. I realize how entirely silly/risque that sounds, lol.
