New Feature In Forums! A big effort that we've doing here is to rewrite the backend engines that handle text. You see, there are many pieces of the site that store text in some way -- forums are the obvious one, but it also covers profiles and journals and arenas and many other sections. In the background for the past few months we've been working on a major rewrite of the posting engine. This is something that we've wanted to do for a while, and it was sorely needed. It's also a lot of work, and tricky, and the team did a great job on it. But it's not visible, which is the problem: you can tell people that you worked on the backend, but what benefits will they see? It's hard to describe what "it scales much better!" really means. So, we also added a "cool" feature, something that will be immediately visible to everyone that goes into forums. You should see it later today -- enjoy. smile UPDATE 9/12: okay, we rolled out massive changes to the forums backend. You should find it faster and it looks somewhat different. But the "cool" feature that I mentioned looks like it will ship out Thursday. The key word for the new feature: "Pulse!" UPDATE 9/12: yah, we hear you about the subscribed threads problem. We'll be fixing that. We're also tracking various IE/FF incompatibilities, the fact that there is no easy way to go to a particular page, and a bunch of other stuff. Most of the developers also spend quite a bit of time on the forums reading about the problems -- unfortunately, responding on the threads often involves tons of hate mail, but we are definitely reading it.

	I know exactly what you mean by the "behind the scenes" work. :/ No one can see what you do. looks around frantically for new feature I'm sure the search button was there before.. did it turn into a darker shade? Hm.. over analyzes it

	I'm glad to hear that you guys are trying to listen to us, however, what I'm not glad about is all the hate-mail you guys are getting. I just wanted to let you guys know there are some members of Gaia who do appreciate your work. Thanks.

	There are some of us out here , not enough maybe , who really do appreciate the time and effort you all put into trying to keep the mob happy , and having to hide away from the hate is just totally unfair on you and makes me cross. I'm not at all surprised that devs/admin/mods don't interact so much , it's bloomin' impossible - like tripping over a hornets nest. Just don't get discouraged biggrin
