Band Camp. A synonym for it would be Hell Week. I've been there for three days (9 to 5 each day until Friday) and I know why it's called Hell Week.
1. Hot sun, not too many breaks, all day.
2. Standing up in the hot sun for hours on end.
3. For some, it's carrying a heavy instrument of light one at a weird angle. For me, it's carrying a flag. It seems light at first, but starts to feel heavy very quickly.
4. Rolling feet over uneven terrain. Horrible for the ankles.
5. TWIRLING the flag. (40 drop spins on one arm is hard enough on a person's stronger arm. And, of course, we have to even everything out....)
6. Throwing the flag. It sucks. Especially when you get hit in the head.
7. The silk/sail getting in your line of vision/getting rolled up. It looks sloppy and it's hard to undo without anyone noticing/without messing up your steps.
8. Marching in between flute players while simultaneously spinning a flag. (Guard captain says that if I hit them, it's their fault, but I don't wanna hit them!!!)
8.5. Marching while spinning flags. And making sure not to drop them.
9. Push ups/running laps
10. ....I have a megaphone (don't ask)
But even with all of these ridiculous things, Band is a good activity, it's good exercise (seriously. I mean, I have a friend who's been doing band since his freshman year, and you should see his calves!! Muscle!!!) Also, Band is a good way to get friends, develop character, and develop discipline.
If anyone has any questions about the good, bad, or the hilarious, ask and I might tell ya a story/put it in here.
Oh, and guys...?
