Her feet tumbled. His arms caught her. He's not the creature, but the boy who helped her push It away. His arms are strong enough to hold the world. She knows that. It was just too late before she would find out. The pain hurts, but he's there. She didn't mind his scruffy face. She didn't mind his messy hair. His arms were gentle. He hurt just as much as she did. For that moment. Time stopped. No one was leaving. They just held each other in an embrace of friendship. Of love. Not the romantic love. Not Romeo to her Juilet. But Michael to her Maria. That unconditional love of a friend who's done everything for her. The kind that hurts. The kind that is questioned. The kind that is too hard to understand or even put into words for one to understand. She felt the mask she so gently put on wash away down her face. She didn't care. He still thought her beautiful. He still thought her worth something. She was his sidekick. He was her guiding hand. But now, he's not here. Now he's gone. She's empty.
