Stuff just happens to me, huh?
Glitchy, Glitchy, Glitchy... (The 8th PC, 12th)
WTF... Two computer-related stories today...

The 8th PC - Server

Yesterday, the 8th PC, which is mainly my personal web server, decided to screw up after adding a hard drive. Of course, it took over two hours to resolve the issue. scream

I was planning to format the 8.4 GB drive which had an installation of SuseLinux 10.1 on it, so I disconnected one drive due to precautionary practices. I then managed to format the drive. I then set jumpers on both drives to Cable Select so I didn't have to worry about switching hard drives' positions for anything.

After moving my web stuff and modifying the server settings, the computer hangs terribly. It took about 45 minutes to go through Windows 98SE and repeatedly restarting the PC in the process. stressed

At this point, I booted into Safe Mode with no problem, then booted normally. After finally getting through Win98SE, the PC lagged for two minutes, then BSODed on me, telling me that it was unable to write to drive C. I thought it was just reading the drives on the OS? theThen, out of frustration, I changed the jumper settings on both drives: the 4.3 GB one the master drive, and the 8.4 GB drive the slave and powered the PC on.

Then it works properly. xp What the heck. I guess it doesn't like Cable Select settings. And somehow I seem to have fixed the Shut Down freezing problem. whee

12th - The Free Time Computer

A short one this time... This took place past 12 midnight, so this counts as today.

After installing a video driver update that HP always bugged me so, I decided to install the update. It would have been installed a few days ago, but I kept dozing off waiting for the download to finish.

Well, after installing the update, the computer screen kept flickering. I was like, "Oh, shoot... I have to roll back that driver..." or something similar. Seeing the state that the computer was in, I was glad I wasn't using Firefox at the time, because the screen flickered every few seconds and the computer was close to crashing, like the Inspiron 8100.

It turns out that I simply had to restart the computer. After I did that, I noticed that the graphics did look a bit better that before. I was relieved, knowing I didn't have to use the Recovery function. blaugh

Copying this to my Livejournal later on today.
