Of technostuff and cockiness
Mmkay, so, yesterday I got one of my wishes. I've got a laptop now!
It's just a compaq, windows 2000, and it doesn't have much. But it has enough. I've got internet, I'll be having microsoft word soon, and it didn't cost too much. I expected to have to pay, like, at least $400 for something decent. But I only paid a little more than $300.

Again, I think the Universe. It was a one-day-only sale, and though this thing isn't all that pretty, it's good enough for me. And besides, once I finish my novel, I'll just go back there and get the nicer, more expensive one that my mom was looking at XD.

But today I had to go and do something kinda stupid. No, I didn't break the laptop (thank god!!!) In fact, it has nothing to do with my laptop.
You see, I was working with my dad today on a job (he's self employed with his own pool company) and he needed someone to work with him on this big job. It was going to pay pretty good, like, $10 an hour (which I can use for going on vacation with Kay) and so I volunteered. So, I got up early and got ready for work, like a good girl ( XD ) and we went off to work.

Now, the reason that my dad was paying so much for me to work was because it was a big job. But I never imagined it to be this big.
The homeowner has a sorta small above-ground round pool. But it wasn't winteized last year, and if that wasn't bad enough, you should have seen the pool. Oh. My. God. The cover was falling in and it was all covered in algea and leaves, and just stuff that grows in water. The depth was only, like, four feet, and even after we got the cover off and drained out a lot of water, it wasn't until the water was 2 feet deep that I could teel where the bottom was. So, we put on our rubber boots and climbed in with big brushes, scrubbing the liner as well as we could while we had a machine pump out the water. But the pump got clogged. Luckily we were able to fix that. But as the water level dropped, it was harder to get it all out.

Here's where it gets interesting. So, my dad goes into the pool and holds the hose down in the water. My job was to turn the engine on. That was stupid of both of us. I'm horrible with starting engines, the kind where you pull a string and it turns on. Well, the thing had been turned on for a while before we turned it off and then we needed it on again a minute or two later. So I simply pull the string; it doesn't work. So I figure that I need more leverage, and I'n right about that.

But the muffler was placed SO inconvieniently. That's right. In order to turn the engine on, I put my left hand on the muffler and grabbed the string with my right.

It took a moment before the heat and pain reached my hand. I cried out and snatched my hands away, inwardly knowing that I burned myself and that I'd need cold water on it right then.

I'm not sure what my other thoughts were. Everything was just blurry from then on for a while. My dad came out of the pool, cursing at his mistake of not warning me, bringing the hose up so I could cool down my burns. He looked at them, still cursing himself, all the while I was trying to laugh it off by saying, "Thank god it was my left hand!"

Yeah, even in a situation like this, all I could think about was writing.

So the homeowner's daughter comes outside a few minutes later and brings some ice, which I was really grateful for. After that, my dad was asking me if he should just call my mom to come and bring me home from the job. For a little while, I was all, "No, I can't just leave you alone with this big job!" But he called my mom anyway, when I realized that I wouldn't be able to work when I was dealing with this kind of pain. So, Until my mom came, I sat in the truck with the doors open and just waited for the burns to go down and stop hurting.

Eventually, my mom came, as did my brother. That was fortunate, because then he'd be working on the rest of the job with my dad. So my mom and I went home, but my ice had already melted. I dealt with tears running down my face and stinging in my hand all the way home.

I'm better now though. The burns don't look very bad and are only mostly on my thumb and part of my index finger. My left thumb is the worst. Good thing I don't use it too often! Eheheh....

Sorry, I'm just laughing to ease my own pain. I do that. Instead of crying sometimes, I laugh. It can sometimes creep me out, but whatever.

Tomorrow I'm going to go back to work with my dad, but this time it'll be around things that ARE NOT poorly designed engines or sharp objects. And then on thursday too. Six hours of weekly service then and some stuff that I can't remember for wednesday.

Well, it's just more money for "me" stuff.

Oh, and one other thing....

WHY IS IT ALWAYS SO FREAKING HOT IN NEW ENGLAND?!?!?
