As graduation looms ever closer, I am forced to think of the symbolism of the diploma. That simple piece of paper that all american children are taught to fight for. The one thing that, no matter how good a student you are, is infinitely available. The epitome of at least 12 years of education. I am incapable of thinking about it as such. To me a diploma is nothing more than a societal brand. Proof that they were able to control my life for over a decade. Like money, there is no real value in a diploma. To me a diploma is nothing more than a certificate that states, "I just spent a decade doing s**t I didn't want to do for people I don't care about."
