He tells another joke,
plays another game.
Everyone loves this boy.
Everyone knows his name.
The fun charismatic jock,
he plays the role so well.
All the others do not know,
his home's a living hell.
Mother stumbles through the room.
Always a bottle in her hand.
The smell of booze on her breathe
is more than he can stand.
Father comes home from work,
just to get in another blow.
This boy struggles to hold it back.
He mustn't shed a tear, mustn't let it show.
His little sister trembles at night,
as she sleeps in bed with him.
All the sadness in their eyes,
is reaching to the brim.
They get up in the morning,
to bear another day,
with all the pain and all the fear
they're not allowed to say.
