January 19th was a pretty relaxing day. My ste-mom was hanging out watching movies with dad and I. Cassie, my step sister was at her dad’s house. Amnyway while we were watching a couple of movies, Roxy had called and I didn’t answer. But she unfortunately left me a message. I listened to it. She kept talking about staying after school for Making of the Band Club, which I still think was the stupidest name ever for a club, but it gets the point across. Anyway a few minutes through the movie Good Luck Chuck, I left, watching that movie with your parents is just plain wrong. So I went into the office and played some computer games. About 7 or 8 I get a call from a restricted number and the call was blocked and anytime the number is blocked it's Roxy. Anyway I answered the phone and I hear “Maurie, Maurie is James with you?”
“No, who is this?” I said worried
“It’s me, Jules.” She said. Right at that second my worst nightmare came alive, for weeks I had had dreams of Julia calling me and telling me that Ben had killed himself.
“What’s wrong, what happen?”
“It’s Roxy!” Jules said worriedly.
“What happened?” I said trying to clam her down.
“I was talking to her and she was in the car then she yelled and the phone went dead.” She said more panicked.
“Ok did you try calling her back?” I said more worried.
“Yes it just went to her voice mail” She yelled.
“Ok where was she headed?” I asked.
“Bob’s house.” She yelled again.
I checked outside since Bob’s house was only two blocks away. “Well, I don’t hear any cops or any ambulances, so maybe she’s ok and her phone just died.” I said getting more confused.
“Maurie, it’s me Roxy.” she said.
“What! Why would you… never mind.” I hung up. Slammed the door and stomped over to the computer desk pissed off.
I was sitting there for a minute thinking how, why, what for. My phone rings, I know that ring tone, Apologize by One Republic it’s always been the perfect ringtone for her.
“Maurie,” Roxy yelled.
“WHAT” I yelled louder and hung up. I sat there for what seemed like hours, and I started to cry. The thoughts running through my head “What was she thinking, why would she do that, what would happen if that did reallyhappen?” I called her back but she didn’t answer, I called her house phone and cell phone twice and finale I left her a message, “Roxy that was wrong and just plain mean and I just can’t believe you did that, Goodbye.“ I got up, still pissed and went to fold clothes. Mom and dad had just finished their movie and dad walked in and said,
“You should be glad that you didn’t watch that movie.”
I kind of laugh as my head was down.
“What’s wrong?” he said with his puppy dog voice.
“Nothing.” I said as I was folding clothes with my head still down.
“Yes there is, I know you after 15 and a half years.” He said with a chuckle. “Come here and tell me.” As he pulled me closer.
I told him the whole story.
“What, hey go tell mom” He said.
I told her also.
“WHAT! That’s it! What’s her number? Where is your phone?” She yelled.
“On my nightstand” I said still crying.
“I’ll use my phone so she doesn’t recognize the number” She said pissed.
She called her home number and Roxy answered and hung up. Then Roxy called my phone and mom answered.
“Is this Roxy?” Kris yelled. “Do you know what you did was wrong because obviously, you don’t. Maurie has a hard enough life without you making it any better!”
“I can’t stop you from being Maurie’s friend but if you ever do that again, I will be contacting your mother!”
Tuesday at school. I went and sit by James like normal. Roxy walks in and stands about five feet away and told Blake to tell me to meet her in the locker rooms.
I though to my-self “Go or stay, Drama or James.” But confronting my problems is something I should do first.
I walked in right behind her, Kim, and Jules. They sat on the benches and Roxy starts opening hr purse.
“Here is that and that and that oh I forgot the Forest Gump thing.” She said laying the husky, two necklaces and the green bracelet on the bench.
“What is going on?” Jules and Kim are asking.
“Maurie that was really unneeded to get your step-mom involved” she said calmly.
“Well, Roxy my life has been hell lately and you are part of the problem. Your not helping any.” I yelled at her.
“Well, my mom tried to kill her-self last night” She yelled back.
“Oh yeah right Roxy that’s just another one of your lies.” I yelled with the thought of my mom in my head. She knew that would hit a soft spot.
“And you know what, I did spread whose rumors about you” She yelled back and that is the last word that she has spoken to me since.
Jules and Kim just stood there with their eyes wide open.
Ms. Pringle, the PE teacher came over and asked if we needed to see the consoler.
“No, we don’t thanks.” I had never thought that your friendship(or what ever it was called) end like that.
I still don’t have a clue what to do with the Husky. I don’t want to burn it.
Three months later we both called it even, never again will I be part of here damn drama.
