Alphabet of Legendary Creatures: Letter H
Huli Jing: A fox spirit of Chinese tradition. Often sighted prowling on the rooftops, Huli Jing are held in awe. They are believed to be the shen of the dead, and are sometimes seen flitting about graveyards. Their true form is that of a fox, but they will often shapeshift into an attractive human to seduce. They have a particular affinity for scholars and other such virtuous people. The Huli Jing seeks the vital essence of their human lover that is released during orgasm. They steal this essence, and the human withers away and dies. The motives of the Huli Jing are ambiguous. They are not necessarily evil (aside from the people-killing part.) Think of them as being mischevious and impulsive. Other Huli Jing activities include possessing people and causing madness that lasts for generations. The Huli Jing can be helpful, but only to those who worship them and routinely offer incense. Such individuals are rumored to be able to walk through walls and fly.

Alphabet of Legendary Creatures: Letter G
Ghoul: A species of Djinn prevalent in Islamic lore and legend. The ghouls true form is yet unknown, as they shapeshift with rapid alacrity. The Ghouls is most often sighted with shaggy, matted hair that covers fiery red eyes, and cloven feet, but will often disguise itself as a friend or seductress. Ghouls are some of the most malevolent species of Djinn, along with ifrits and shaitans, and have a carnivorous nature. They like nothing more than to consume fresh human flesh, but will also settle for gravedigging when they have nothing else to eat. The Ghoul will often be sighted in prowl mode as a mirage, flitting about the arid desert air as a twilight mirage. Lonely wanderers are the usual prey of the Ghoul, which is why it is best to always travel in good company...

Alphabet of Legendary Creatures: Letter F
Fachan: An ogre of the Scottish highlands. Also known as "Peg-Leg Jack." His features are all singular; he has one foot, one arm, one ear, one toe, and one fiery, penetrating eye. He has a round, furry body, grey or black in color. The Fachan is an entirely malevolent entity. He loathes all forms of life, and chases them away with his spiked club. It is perhaps best that he doesn't like to share company with humans, as he is so hideous that just the sight of him can give a human a heart-attack!

Alphabet of Legendary Creatures: Letter E
Eloko: A human-eating dwarf from Zaire. The Eloko lives in the deep rainforest in Zaire. They are tiny creatures, with bodies completely covered in greenery. Despite their otherwise small proportions, the Eloko have jaws that can open wide enough to swallow a human being whole. This creature obtains victims through the use of music. The Eloko carries bells with it that make unworldly beautiful sound. The sound of these lure anyone save for medicine men to their certain death.

Alphabet of Legendary Creatures: Letter D
Domovoi: A Russian house spirit. traditional Russian families regarded him as "Grandfather." He is said to resemble a creature completely covered in soft, pale fur, with shining black eyes. The Domovoi was a direct connection to one's ancestors, an embodiment of the previous master of the house. Each family had its own Domovoi, a relatively friendly spirit who takes care of the needs of the household and farms. Like most spirits, the Domovoi is not without his mischevious moments, and can get downright vicious. He requires extreme loyalty, and if he is neglected, he may bring misfortune on the household for years to come, and has even been known to kill those who displease him. The Domovoi has the gift of futuresight, and can warn the family about future troubles through the sounds he makes at night.

Alphabet of Legendary Creatures: Letter C
Cockatrice: A famed hybrid of Medieval European repotoure. A cockatrice is born when a hen's egg is stolen and hatched by a snake. The cockatrice resembles a reptilian rooster, with petrifying eyes. The cockatrice's stare will kill any living creature, save for a weasel. The weasel is one of the instruments of the cockatrice's demise, along with the crowing of a rooster and wormwood. Some say, ironically, that if a mirror is put in a cockatrice's line of vision, it will be killed by its own gaze! Even after its death, the cockatrice is not to be handled, as its body is apparently toxic.

Alphabet of Legendary Creatures: Letter B
Bunyip: A very odd Australian hybrid. Some say it looks like a queer cross between an emu and a serpent; others say it's rather doglike; still others insist that it is reminiscent of a human with twisted features. Whatever the case, the bunyip is known for its distinct cry, which permeates for miles throughout Australian wetlands; this cry is said to be a sign of flash floods. It is best to be on good terms with the bunyip, as it has complete control over the natural forces in that area. There are numerous accounts of bunyips flooding local villages due to the actions of specific villagers. A popular story accounts the creation of black swans to one such deluge. The bunyip's diet consists mainly of dingos, wallabees, the indiginous people of Austalia, and the occasional helmeted explorer.

Alphabet of Legendary Creatures: Letter A
Al: An Armenian semi-supernatural spirit, said to have one fiery eye, medusa-esque hair, tusks of a boar, and nails of brass. Al wears a hat covered with bells, and always carries a sharpened scissors. It is said that the Al was Adam's original counterpart, but that Al and Adam could not copulate, as Al was made of fire and Adam of earth. When Eve was created, Al was furious and from that day forward, swore to destroy womankind and their offspring. Al is said to live in stables and the dark, dusty corners of houses. He preys on pregnant woman; he causes miscarriages and may be apt to strangle a pregnant woman, devour their liver, and steal their unborn child. Al may also abduct any pre-pubescent child and take them to it's demon king to boil and eat. The Al can be diverted with any object made with iron; often a pregnant woman will sleep with an axe under her bed. I find the Al to be one of the more disturbing mytological creatures; he was a childhood fear of mine.
