Alphabet of Legendary Creatures: Letter D
Domovoi: A Russian house spirit. traditional Russian families regarded him as "Grandfather." He is said to resemble a creature completely covered in soft, pale fur, with shining black eyes. The Domovoi was a direct connection to one's ancestors, an embodiment of the previous master of the house. Each family had its own Domovoi, a relatively friendly spirit who takes care of the needs of the household and farms. Like most spirits, the Domovoi is not without his mischevious moments, and can get downright vicious. He requires extreme loyalty, and if he is neglected, he may bring misfortune on the household for years to come, and has even been known to kill those who displease him. The Domovoi has the gift of futuresight, and can warn the family about future troubles through the sounds he makes at night.

Alphabet of Legendary Creatures: Letter A
Al: An Armenian semi-supernatural spirit, said to have one fiery eye, medusa-esque hair, tusks of a boar, and nails of brass. Al wears a hat covered with bells, and always carries a sharpened scissors. It is said that the Al was Adam's original counterpart, but that Al and Adam could not copulate, as Al was made of fire and Adam of earth. When Eve was created, Al was furious and from that day forward, swore to destroy womankind and their offspring. Al is said to live in stables and the dark, dusty corners of houses. He preys on pregnant woman; he causes miscarriages and may be apt to strangle a pregnant woman, devour their liver, and steal their unborn child. Al may also abduct any pre-pubescent child and take them to it's demon king to boil and eat. The Al can be diverted with any object made with iron; often a pregnant woman will sleep with an axe under her bed. I find the Al to be one of the more disturbing mytological creatures; he was a childhood fear of mine.
