Al was a Demon, and this did not matter to Jacob...until he was attacked by a rouge one near the school...Al gave Jacob back his ring and said she could not marry one who killed her kind....It hurt Jacob so badly that he incinerated himself after his own son, Geo Muse, came back in time and disowned him...
