I've been reading
this article (thanks for the link, Bob
heart ) for the past while written by a guy who puts everything I feel and think about music in to words perfectly. And adds to it. I'm familliar with the bands he writes about, but the ways he compares them puts everything into such a clear light makes it feel like I've never looked at them at ALL before. It then leads me to wonder why can't more fans be like this...and why can't more musicians be like this? This then makes me incredibly pessimistic about the shape of music right now...not just from Asia or America or even Europe, but everywhere.
So I want to know what is the appeal to these bands that feel nothing for the act of making music and feel nothing for the music they themselves make. I look up to artists that say things like "I'm going to change the world with rock and roll music," and "Rock is a monster," so when I hear bands saying things like "Formed with the sole purpose to spread the feeling of hurt and sorrow caused by weakness, shallowness and egoism of humanity" just feels hollow and superficial to me. Like they're not in it for the music. They're in it for the kitsch. They want to be something new and different, but they don't feel they need to put it in their music to accomplish this.
