Dear Journal, My grandmother passed away yesterday. My parents knew it when she did, but didn't want to ruin my birthday lunch. I'm not sad, though. She died in her sleep, peacefully, and was not in pain. My mother will go to China and attend her funeral, and Grandma will be cremated and her ashes will be set next to her husband's. About a week ago, I asked my mother if her mother was afraid of death, and she said that everyone is afraid of death. But it is something everyone has to face sometime, whether in 70 years or just next week. We have to learn to embrace it, and let go of the things we hold dear, to let our souls be set free from its earthly cage and be lifted to the heavens, where the Gods awaits. Somewhere up there, my grandmother and grandfather are finally reunited, and watching over my mother and her sisters. -Halyi
