Chapter I / 1st part
For five long years I had a normal, almost boring life, but when my 25th birthday came something strange happened.
I woke up as always at 6 o’ clock – it was a work-day after all – and headed for the kitchen and my morning coffee. As I passed the first window of the corridor I noticed something that petrified me. My so-familiar neighborhood was a totally strange place to me. All the houses were gone and nothing of the landscape remained. Before I could react the doorbell rang and immediately the front door collapsed to reveal a weirdly clad man standing there. He was tall and maybe young, with long silver hair and big blue eyes. His long cloak of pure black looked velvety and flowed graciously over him covering all other garments.
“May I come in, my lady?” he asked courteously. I glared at him unable to say a word. I felt numb.
After a moment of silence he entered the house and approached me. With a slender movement he knelt in front of me took my hand and touched it with his soft lips.
“My lady, my name is Rondal Gernell son of Deldhil and Arianna from the lake kingdom of Irwin. I was waiting for your arrival for nearly fifty years.” He was still kneeling waiting as I presumed for my permission or my answer. I wondered if I was dreaming, if I never woke up. Nevertheless the moment felt very tense and I knew I had to do something to break it, so I spoke in a little voice barely controlling my anxiety,
“I am Schilla Parsons… Erm… I am from England…” that was all I could manage. I fell silent once more.
His eyes glowed with happiness as he told me, “Oh! I am so glad to finally meeting you, my dear! Your grandfather, good old Larry, was so full of stories about you; he used to describe you as a little cute devil laughing kindly with your misdeeds! But I have to admit you are not as vicious as I expected you, in fact you seem rather timid… Anyway, how was it?”
I was awestruck. “How was what? Where am I, anyway, and what about you? How could you possibly have known my grandpa? You are nearly my age by your looks! What’s happening? Am I still asleep? Am I dreaming or something? Please, answer me! Answer me, ‘cause I think I am losing it! Please…” My agony suppressed as it was for all this time broke up into a burst of tears. I couldn’t control myself any more. He looked at me straight in the eyes and where there had been, only moments before, a glad face now appeared a worrying and anxious expression. He said with a calm steady voice,
“Please try to calm down and I am going to explain everything to you. I was so happy to see you that I hadn’t taken into account the fact that you may be an ignorant of your situation. Honestly I believed Larry had explained to you the whole matter years ago, but as it seems he didn’t. And now you are here… Oh! Please don’t cry! I’ll tell you all I know! I am here to help you, not to scare you… Please, trust me!”, and with that he hugged me and murmured a very weird tune in my ear. It was so beautiful and peaceful that my heartbeats found their normal rate again and my tears stopped. I raised my head and looked at him. He was smiling, the same smile that a mother has when she needs to reassure her baby. It was so warm;
Still smiling he probed me, “Let us go inside because this story I am going to tell you is a bit long and it would be a shame to spend all this time standing here amidst the corridor.” Reluctantly I left his hug and led the way to the living room. We both took a sit and when we were comfortable enough he began...
