I thought about this idea of men escaping their gender through women's stories and lives.
Miyazaki
L frank Baum
Lewis Carroll
Brothers Grimm and other males who compiled fairy tales (they were angry that beautiful, young, wealthy, accomplished women told these stories while they were less well-off and accomplished. So, they created old poor women telling stories to hide that and make themselves feel better and seem charitable. This was about German nationality. They made these stories more Christian or conservative to make sure critics would accept them. They wanted to make money from women and receive the credit.
Hans Christian Anderson was a gay man. Did he steal his tales? That would break the pattern but match the idea of gender or sexuality outside of hetero masculinity.
