This may come as a shock to some, but in high school, I was a bit of a rebel. You know, hair dye, main stream punk clothes, printed tees. The usual. Just like everybody else who wasn't like everybody else.
I never really shopped at Hot Topic since the one nearest to my home only carried band related items and oversized one size fits most shirts. Nothing I wanted. But I was familiar with the store and had nothing against it. I even went to their website sometimes to see what was in stock.
But I hadn't visited in years, seeing as I dropped my whole angsty phase a while ago. I'm still just as angsty, I just don't need $200 bondage pants to reassure myself that it is true.
Today though, I was in a thread about those Naruto headbands and someone asked where to get them. Answers I was familiar with came up, like Ebay and conventions. Then someone said Hot Topic. I was really surprised for a second then went to the website to see. Sure enough, they have them. The surprise only lasted for a second.
But why wouldn't they have them? Like any other business they need to have what their main audience wants. So I shrugged it off and took a glance at the site.
Not much had changed... All the usual menu tabs like New Stock, Gift Cards, Tops, Bottoms, Dresses, HT Baby, Sales....
WAIT!
WTF???
HT.... BABY?
And sure enough, when I hesitantly looked inside, I found a section dedicated to toddlers, young children, and even infants. Whose idea of a sick joke is this? Babies put up with enough having to allow their parents to dress them up in cutesy frilly little gowns and itty bitty shoes but honestly... No child would want a Slipknot tee. No parent should want their child in a Slipknot tee!
Jesus... Dress how you want but keep the baby out of it. Babies are supposed to have unbiased opinions and a clean slate. That's why even people like me still, somehow, tolerate them. As soon as you sausage one into a Green Day bodysuit, that seals the deal. It's all over. You baby fails at life.
And you don't want your baby to fail at life, do you?
You should be ashamed of yourself.
Yes you.
