"Miss Sneezle, I do implore you to head to the evacuation helicopter." a portly man in what has once been a crisp suit said in a distressed voice. The damp summer air did not seem to agree with him. The woman he pleaded to was one Lady Dragonia Kathrine Sneezle, third in line to inherit the huge weapons development conglomerate Omnicap Industries. Her friends called her DS, the man was obviously not one. She seemed to be ignoring him, shuffling through papers at a frantic pace trying to decide what to keep and what what not bothering with. "Higgins," she replied after a few seconds, "I understand that my father sent you here to keep an eye on me but I know the gravity of the situation. I cannot merely leave all this valuable research behind after all we've accomplished." She glanced around the small tent that held her mobile lab and her eyes fell upon a glowing green vial sitting just behind Higgins. She brushed past him and picked it up, stoppering it tightly and sliding it into a front pocket of her grey vest. The hot air clung to her like a shirt two sizes too small. Higgins jumped as a scream echoed from the opposite side of the camp. "I don't see why you can to come all the way to the borderland to mess around with this..pestilence." Higgins said his voice heavy with contempt. DS shook her head. "You know the samples would never had made it back to Cerria. To find a cure I need to be here. Where the contracted swarm." Higgins was not impressed. "Why bother? Cerria has no such problems. Leave the rabble to their own devices." With a disapproving gesture DS dismissed the though. "We don't have it now, but it spreads so quickly. It kills so completely. If we don't-" She was cut off as the west side of the tent burst open and two of the referred to infected rushed in. The first one, what used to be an attractive young girl, jumped on Higgins without giving him any chance to respond. "I CAN HAZ BITE PLZ?" she shouted and proceeded to gouge large chunks of his neck with her shattered teeth. The second, a young man sporting only one arm, charged toward DS. She backed up frantically and fell backwards over the folding table behind her. The rabid boy followed shouting gibberish. "HAXXORS! IR PWN U!" He almost made it over the remains of the table when a gunshot rang out nearly deafening DS. The boy fell to the ground a smoking hole in his gaunt face. The man with the gun, DS knew him as Pennyworth, Walked in calmly and capped the girl as well, a clean kill. He checked Higgins and puckered his mouth. "He's dead. Luckily she got his jugular, I wouldn't want to be one of those things." DS stood and tried to stop her heart from beating a thousand beats a second. "Pennyworth, thank you but try not to discharge your weapon so close to my head again." He gave a playful nod and replied. "I'll make a note of it. The camp's overrun. We're leaving." Looking distraught DS tried to spot the stack of papers she was building but the action had strewn them everywhere. "I have to get my files!" Pennyworth grunted and grabbed DS forcefully around the waist and dragged her outside. "No time." Outside it was pandemonium. Gunfire now erupted all over the camp and DS spotted several of the infected "zombies" attacking guards and other employees of her company. A helicopter was waiting for them just ahead ready to take off as soon as they were aboard but a crowd of zombies were posed to over take it. With a show of unbelievable strength Pennyworth tossed DS into the chopper and tried to climb in himself before a zombie grabbed hold of his shoulder and looked to bite down. DS, in panic and concern punched the foe only to be bitten hard on the arm by an unseen enemy on the right. She shook him off and yanked her rescuer into the cabin. "Get us out of here!" Pennyworth shouted, and the helicopter lurched into the air and pointed south to their homeland. DS nursed her wound and began to sweat perfusely, the first sign of infection. Pennyworth stared at her grimly but did not speak. Dammit.. DS thought, I should have been more careful. Now what? Her breathing became unsteady and her eyesight began to blur. An idea popped into her head. "I need a syringe. Get me one out of the first aid kit." Pennyworth looked confused but did as he was bid. Once in her hand she pulled out the green substance and filled the reservoir of the needle. "Pennyworth," she said shakily, "This is my synthesized cure. It's incomplete and untested. You know what to do if it fails." The burly man nodded and raised his pistol as her. With one last gulp she injected herself with the chemical. It was if fire flowed through her veins. The pain made her lose composure and he wailed like a injured animal. Pennyworth and his gun were steady and silent. DS soon fell into a fit full feverish sleep. The chopper sped toward Cerria filled with not only passengers, but the unknown future.
