One night you and your friend are driving while you hear the sky grumble, Even in the bad weather you’re having a blast, But as you hear the thunder rumble, Lightning streaks the sky and you see you’re nearing a cliff fast. As you speed toward the deadly trap, The brakes have failed and you hear the crunching sound, And as you hear the thunder clap, You’re both thrown to the ground. You look just in time to see the car crumble, As it continues to harshly fall, And as you listen to the thunder rumble, You barely hear your friend’s frightened call. You crawl to your friend over some of the car’s scraps, You notice he’s in agonizing pain, And as the thunder claps, You see the blood washing away in the rain. You suddenly get a few memories in a jumble, Especially the night you first me your best friend, During a night when you could also hear the thunder rumble, You were in danger, and it was you he’d come to defend. From that time on between you there weren’t any gaps, You could always depend on him, and he could always depend on you, Again as the thunder claps, You remember all the helpful things he’d do. He’d hold you up when you would stumble, He’d listen to all your problems while he held you near, And every time the thunder would rumble, He’d comfort you and take away your fear. Then you start to think that perhaps, Perhaps if your friend could only make it to the dawn, But this time when the thunder claps, You know your one true friend is gone.
