And here's the prompt response to the Prompt Me! thread, which, because it is fanfiction, I am for some reason sticking in here.

The sun shone down when he found the notebook – cast beautiful light on ink black pages, a sort of heavenly thumbs-up. He killed when it was dark. Light thought that, perhaps, it was a symbolic thing – for was not he the Day to L’s Midnight? A sign from somewhere, he thought.
A sign from…
…something.
He turns on the television and there are people screaming there. Their lips are parted, red flashes of tongue slipping showing. Behind them is shimmering gold cloth, white marble, gaudiness. Sunshine hits everything, covers the bodies like a crime scene.
They yell, “KIRA! GIVE US A SIGN!”
And he pulls his notebook out of his death and scribbles down the names of criminals. People die.
He thinks, there is your sign.
It is black outside. There are stars in the sky. The moon glows bright.
Downstairs, his mother calls for him, but God is silent.
