Ch. 4
Jonathon decided to drive me to school this morning, but he promised that it would not happen again. He went to this school once, after all, and he understood that it was not cool to come to school early. Since I was one hour and thirty minutes early, I was the first one to arrive, except one girl who I knew from a long time ago.
I called her Gabe because her full name was Gabriella. She hated to be called just Gab because she said it reminded her of a chicken. We were friends up until last year.
“Have a nice day, Mabel. And for real” Jonathon shot me a warning glare.
“I. Am. So. Scared” I rolled my eyes at him.
I hurried out of the car, even though there was no rush to begin with. School doors weren’t even unlocked yet.
“Bye!” I shouted after Jonathon as he tore off the road.
I could feel Gabe’s stare while I walked towards the door. I knew they were locked but I gave them a few tugs any ways. I wanted to try to avoid any contact with Gabe, even though Jonathon practically threatened me if I didn’t.
Suddenly I heard something.
“Um…”
I took a glance at Gabe. Her chocolate colored eyes were staring right at me. I looked all around to see if there was any other creature, leaf, or being around that could have made a sound. I looked at her again. She looked at me as if I’ve done something to insult her.
“The door is locked” She stated as if it were a matter-of-fact sort of thing. But of course that was the person she always was.
“I know that now”
“You don’t have to be such a wise a** about it” Her nose scrunches, causing her thick-lensed glasses to moved downward. She pushed it back up with one finger.
I was trying my best to avoid tackling her. Though nobody was around, I didn’t want to. If my mother was dealing with my new moody personality, then found out I was fighting, things would not go down pleasantly at my house. On the plus side, I didn’t want to hurt my family even more. Yet, I did not apologize. I felt no need to.
The janitor came in a couple minutes after I calmed down. When he unlocked and opened the door, I felt myself rush against Gabe to get inside. Even though she was here for a longer time, she had more layers on than me. The weather was not warm in the morning either. I could hear Gabe’s grunt behind me.
We both waited at the tables next to each other since her friends,(my old ones) sat there while I still sat by my lonesome. Several kids came into the room after a few minutes of waiting. I could tell that buses came in when groups of students walked into the cafeteria at once. Few kids came in by themselves, and I could tell they were the ones who got a ride.
