"Hey baby." A simple sentence like this would have my heart soar; above the clouds and beyond. To be said by the right guy would make any girl happy. To be said by him would make all the other girls jealous. I want him to say it to me, but he doesn't even see me. He's so totally out of my league. I can't go near him without anyone automatically assuming that I'm just one of the fan girls who want a piece of his clothing or wants to carry his books around. I'm not that kind of girl. I'm not that desperate, but for him to recognize me and treat me like everyone else would be a miracle. I hope that he will.
"Hey, earth to Mizuki! Girl, your hair is all up in the mashed potatoes." I shook myself away from my trance and somehow just realized that I was at lunch. My best friends Diza and Tas was staring at me with concern. "Dude, you just blanked out on us. What's going on with you?" Tas took a bite of her applesauce and waited for my response. Of course I was too busy ogling at my "future baby". Yeah, like that would happen.
Tas and Diza followed my gaze and sighed. Diza poked me. I jumped and almost spilled my tray. She rolled her eyes. "Girl, if you like him so much, why don't you just go talk to him?" I stared at them like they were crazy. "You're kidding right?" Tas started clapping and yelled, "SHE LIVES! You're finally talking. Ever since the beginning of the year, you've been staring that guy down. You need to take action or your feelings will never be heard. You got to tell him." Diza shook her head in agreement. I looked at them with disbelief. "I can't believe you guys are trying to say I have a chance at him. I know you guys are trying to help, but lying to me isn't going to..." My eyes stray off to the side and he's just staring, but at what? I look around and notice that it's me! He's staring at me! Our eyes meet for a second and I quickly look away. "Wow, that was cold." Tas glances at him and back at me. "You totally BHH. How could you? You should talk to him after lunch." And with that, Tas and Diza picked up their trays and left me at the table.
I panicked. They left me here to fend for myself. What if he walks up to me and he's angry that I brushed him off? What do I do? I look over to my left and see that he's still staring at me! Surely I think I'm mistaken. Maybe I have something on my face and he's just waiting to see how long it would take for me to notice. Maybe he needs me to tutor him in something. I don't know, but I'm sure he's not interested in me. I pay attention to my food and start to consume it slowly. As soon as I look up, he's walking straight for my table! What do I do? What do I do? What do I do? I can't possibly talk to him.
He sits down right in front of me, and I try to put on the nicest face that I could manage. He tilts his head to the side and stares into my eyes. "You know, you're a very interesting girl Mizuki. You're one of the few girls who don't try to approach me, but admire from afar. But out of those girls, most try to get my attention by making a fool of themselves. You don't try to do that. Why is that?" My breath is short and ragged and my head is spinning. He is talking to me. Why did he stop? Oh no, he's waiting for me to say something. "Y-You know my n-name?" He just looks at me and starts laughing. He sticks his finger under my chin and lifts my face up. "You really are a beautiful girl Mizuki, but if you don't gain confidence, you'll never get what you want." With that said, he picks up my tray and leaves.
"OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG!!!!!!" I run into class screaming. I trip as soon as I got close to my seat and hit my head on the desk. Diza starts laughing and helps me up. Tas doesn't have 5th period with me, so I had to talked to Diza about the matter. She was just sitting there looking at me confused. "What in the heck? What happened?" I'm hyperventilating and sweating from running all the way from the lunchroom to class. "He talked to me!! He talked to me!! OMG I'm about to explode! He talked to me like a normal human and not a genius freak girl. He even called me beautiful..." At this point, I'm daydreaming about our future together, but this dream bubble is popped by a loud-mouthed, obnoxious, popular girl named Sei.
"If you're talking about my man calling you beautiful, then you obviously drugged him. Who in their right mind would think you're beautiful?" She started chortling with her posse. I hate to admit it, but I learned to speak popular. I even came up with stuff of my own. "Wow Sei, looking PLMA as always." Diza laughed silently to herself. Sei stuck her head up and grinned widely, "Of course and don't you forget it! Anyways, don't be talking to my boyfriend again, you hear me?" I look her up and down. Maybe I could take her... Never mind, just listen to what she says. "Fine whatever. It's not all that serious. So WOT. Uber time waster." She was about to argue when she noticed I agreed. "O..K.. just remember. Don't go near him." Sei and her evil followers walked over to their table and were beaming with satisfaction.
"PLMA? You are so wrong for that Mizuki! Do you know what she'll do when she learns what that means?" Diza was kind of a worry wart and didn't like people to get hurt or fight. I kind of like her for that reason. She wouldn't start up a fight or spread rumors about people. "Don't worry Diza. She can't even remember Hola means hi in Spanish. Sei will definitely forget what I called her." I swirl my keychain around my finger. "She couldn't remember popular terminology if it could get an actor for a husband. She's just too stupid."
We sat in 5th period and learned everything one needs to know about the human body. Enough that makes you want to examine a body yourself and say, "Gee I'm glad I know this stuff."
It's finally 7th period and I'm walking to my class. "Finally its the end of the day. One more class and I'm home free..." I ran smack dab into a person, and this person was really buff and muscular. "I am so sorry. I was just so excited school is almost over for the day and wasn't paying attention." I looked up and met eyes with my "future lover". Oh no, I think my cheeks are turning red.
He bends down and picks up my textbook and papers that scattered in the hall. He hands them to me and smiles. He wraps his arm around me and asks, "Do you need an escort to class?" All I could do was nod my head yes. He walked all the way around school holding me. I was blushing tomato red by the time we made it to my class. "Thank you for walking me to class, but I think I can manage from here." I turned to go inside, but he grabs me by the arm and hugs me. "Mizuki, to tell you the truth, I'm interested in you." My breathing just stopped and I felt faint. He continued on. "You are a mystery to me and, to be honest, very attractive. I want to know more about you." I opened my mouth and the stupidest thing comes out. "You know my name?" He stared down at me. "You asked me that earlier... Are you okay? I know this may be a shock, but you're kind of scaring me." I shake my head and then get up the courage to say, "What's your real name? I know your friends call you Tori.” He releases me from his grasp. He bent down to my ear and whispers, "It's a secret but I'll tell only you. It's... Raiden." He kisses me on the cheek and goes on to the class.
I walked into 7th period dazed. He kissed my cheek! Oh, this must be a miracle! I have got to tell Tas!!! I walk to my seat and wait for the teacher to begin her instructing, but she comes in with red, puffy eyes and a tear-streaked face. "Class, one of our students has had a terrible accident. Tas has been put in the hospital and diagnosed with cancer. She has throat cancer. Because of this, we will not be having class today. Please visit Tas if you have a chance to." Everyone got up from their seats except for me.
Tas has cancer!!!! No she can't. She looked so healthy at school. She look like her normal self. How could Tas get cancer? Mrs. Lee walked up to me and put a hand on my shoulder. "I know this must be hard Mizuki. I know which hospital she's at and what room she's in. I hope you can visit her soon. She'll need her friends." No. This has to be a dream. A horrible nightmare. Wake up Mizuki. Wake up Mizuki. "WAKE UP MIZUKI!!!!"
