What's in a name?
~Preface~ Where Brothers Shed Blood and Part Ways
Aramas knelt, breathing heavily, his long, white hair falling over his shoulders. Raeal stood just a ways away, his sword held at the ready. No matter how many times they struck at each other, it was useless. Wounds healed in seconds, and words failed to break consentration anymore. How much longer would this go on?

"Come now brother!" Raeal's mouth twisted into a grin and his silvery hair fell across his left eye and fell just above his shoulders. "Don't tell me you're giving up already?!" The vampire spread his arms wide, his shirt stretching across his taunt muscles. He looked to the darkened sky above where stars twinkled in bliss.

Without reply, Aramas came to his feet and looked to his brother. "You're mad Raeal..." It was just above a whisper, the voice seemed to be pleading. "Come to your senses." He reached for his rapier on the tile beside him. Around, walls stretched upward and outward, but the ceiling was absent. A holy place. It was the place of their ancestors. Upon this very floor, blood had been spilt before, condemning the entire family to an eternity of bliss...or was it pain?

The checkered flooring spread between the two and, to Aramas, it seemed like a dark ocean was between him and his brother. The madness that had overcome the young vampire was certainly contagious in some ways, but in others it was exactly as it had appeared; madness. The murder had been exciting, perhaps even "fun" but as time wore on, Aramas's concience caught up with him and he began to think otherwise. All those innocents in the past, women, even men, lost in that last moment of eroctism; their faces welled up in his mind and before long, Aramas could hardly endure it. So they died in a moment of pure, painless bliss, but that could never erased the fact that they died.

Raeal stepped forward. The sudden change of his mood from mocking to loathing was clearly felt within the roofless room. Gracefully, as was expected from their kind, Raeal glided from one end of the room to the other. "Aramas," the name was like a whisp of smoke rising from a chimney. There, but barely. Soon, the brothers were nose to nose, a hairs-breadth apart. Raeal traced Aramas's cheek with his nail, leaving a small trail of blood in his wake. "Fifty years Aramas," the vampire whispered into his brother's ear as he roughly cupped Aramas's chin.

Aramas grimaced before scowling into his brothers iridecent green eyes. "Fifty years was obviously too long," he hissed. Raeal gripped his brother's chin harder in anger. His lips graced Aramas's pale skin before he let go.

"Have it your way brother," Raeal laughed with a crooked smile as he backed away. In seconds, he was across the room as an ill wind blew from the south. In another moment, he was gone, presence and all, leaving Aramas to brood on his lonesome.
