Until now I thought that we as Americans, as humans, were all right. I thought that since we have the right to free speech, everyone was safe. Also, since that we are Americans, we are tolerant and respect everyones opinions...even if we don't agree with them. I'm not so sure now.
I received a call from Eric. His windshield got smashed in because of a message that he had on it. "United Against Bush" Not a hate message, not even an agressive message. Just a standard hey, I don't like Bush message.
...Then someone had the audicity to smash in his windshield. He said there is a 1 inch hole in his dash from whatever smashed it. Someone must have been pretty mad because it seems like it was thrown pretty hard. He told me that he now knows what it is like to be the victum of a hate crime, and I'm feeling it right with him. I'm now terrified. How can there be people like that in the world? How can they be so mean, so cruel, so hateful? I saw him last night and he was so happy. Now....he's probably as confused, pissed off, and scared as I am right now. Eric, a friend of ours, is trying to start a donation to get the money to get his windshield replaced. I think I'll start a little fund myself to see how much I can raise.
Hate crimes are a horrible thing people. When you feel like you really hate someone so much just because their different then you, you really need to reevaluate your thinking. You shouldn't hate someone so much you want to do harm to them or any of their possessions.
