I've been on Gaia for many years now, and in that time, we've gone from having awesome collectibles that obviously had a lot of time and effort put into them to having collectibles with so many poses that it keeps you from noticing that they just aren't as detailed as before.
We've also gone from having awesome events that were fun and free to participate in, to having updates practically every week regarding new events that you can only participate in if you pay cash.
What happened to the Gaian Olympics? You participated and had fun, and at the end of it, you got some fun stuff and went away happy. Now, we have things like the Midsummer Swirl, where you have to buy an item with real money to participate in the event.
I'm all for the idea of Gaia Cash - it's a nice way for people who are willing to donate a little more than the $2.50 for the MC to give back to the site, and still get something in return. But it'd be nice if they made at least some of the items available to the rest of us, be it through Daily Chance, a giftbox, or some sort of random item grant.
I for one, am sick to death of the way the paid events are being made so obvious to the rest of us who either can't afford to participate or just don't want to have to pay to enjoy the site.
If Gaia's going to continue to have these events, that's fine, but I feel that they should be spaced out more - instead of one every week or so, one short event each month would be acceptable, or make some of them accessible to the general public, be it by letting everyone join in, and just making the items a little harder to earn, or by offering a way to get the Gaia Cash without buying it or completing one of the offers. Because I have no interest nor need to apply for several different credit cards, nor in downloading any sort of software to my computer, nor in doing a highly repetitive task for essentially 77 cents for an hour's work.
Gaia used to be a fun, free site that everyone could enjoy. Nowadays, it just seems to be catering towards the users with the money to pay for the site upkeep. And before anyone talks about the Marketplace, essentially all of the Cash Shop items there are ridiculously overpriced (Seriously, 9,999,999 as a buy now for a heartstring with no bidding option? C'mon, people, get with it) or just overly inflated. They also assume that everyone has the time to earn obscene amounts of gold, which while made easier by the addition of Booty Grab, is still fairly hard.
In short, there's too much of an emphasis being placed on Gaia Cash, and not enough placed on the fact that the majority of Gaia still is and always will be people who come here for free fun. Gaia needs to find some way to make things fair for all around here, not just a select few.
