So, I just finished Crashcourse by Wilhelmina Baird. Good book, had my buttons of female character whose belivably human and capable of kicking some a**, a touch of the strange (cybernetics and space age), and relationships outside the hetero-normative (Three point poly relationship with singular-directive circular love impulses; A in love with B, B in love with C, C in love with A)

Unfortunately there is also the "Bury your Gays" trope going on as one of the trio ends up dead (not without foreshadowing near the very beginning of the novel, but still irritating) and the other two end up in a "normal" relationship with both survivors taking on more typically ascribed gender traits.

Still, I like the book and would read it again.

So I've torn through six of the first seven Anita Blake novels (our lib didn't have bloody bones and frankly I didn't feel like waiting for it)

and last night I stayed up until 3am (or so) reading the hoplessly romantic Almost Like Being In Love But hey, what's a little burning the candle at both ends between an media-junkie and his fix, eh?

And Damnit I managed to avoid most things from broadway all through adolescence. So why for the love of all things holy does nearly every goddess blessed "Gay" thing emphasise that I'm a culture hermit for that and my abhorence for black and white film that only cracked after I met heart of stone?

so I've read the heck out of a series my friend turned me on to. starts with A Kiss of Twilight and I've since devoured my way through most of the series to a book called Swallowing Darkness aparrantly, that isn't the last of the series, but the next book, Divine Misdemeanors is checked out and already has another hold on it.

Also read the latest in the Labyrinthine series by Sarah Monette, one Corambis to say I adored it and wanted the more Felix, Mildmay and their new friends imeadiately after finishing the last page would possivbly be understating the case.

The Magnificent Wilf
This one has caught my eye a few times at the local library. I finally openned it and read the blurb. No, you don't get to find out what a "wilf" is until a good third to half way into the book. I was a bit dissapointed with the way Mr. Dickson utilized his primary female character, but not so much that it ruined my enjoyment of the book. I would have liked it if the chracters had actually encounterred a Wilf or if they had allowed Lucy a "briefing" of similar value as Tom's.

Ah well, good book and ended on a very amusing note.

Shadowlands
Okay, the particular audiobook I picked out took some finangling to figure out, but I did like the story once I got to hear it. the voice talent was perfectly apropriate to the narrating character. Since i have tommorow off, provided the weather is kind-ish I'll return it and the rest of my books, snag a couple more audios and texts and maybe even go see a movie or two.depending on the strictures upon my time. Self imposed or otherwise.

Read Heart Of Memories was very good, too bad the library in town doesn't have any more of the author's work. Not that I could find.

Read Two To The Fifth, I must say, Mr. Anthony's preoccupation with his younger characters skirting or outright breaking the "Adult Conspiracy" espescially as he himself gets older, is rather disturbing.

Finished Black Unicorn by Tanith Lee. Very good book. I'll be looking for the other books of the Unicorn. It's strange. I kept getting the impression I'd read it before.

Last on this haul from the library is Susan Cooper's the Dark Is Rising An old favorite that was mangled by screenwriters when made into a movie. I doubt they'll tackle the rest of the series, and if they do, it might be worth watching just to see just how much they are going to have to pull outta their bums because they changed stuff in the first installment that sets things up for the rest.

Finished Foundation by Mercedes Lackey the other night. Good book, one of her rare ones that sticks to ONE point of view throughout. Started on The Red Heart of Memories. Very interesting so far. Though it reminds me uncomfortably of the idea I had for an immersive Geomancer.

Moon Called
Pretty good book, not terribly long and enough twists to make me happy. So, yeah, I'll probably have to read the rest of the series. Maybe even other novels by the same author.

Been a little..drowned. Ran across some batman fanfiction by accident, then kinda got sucked in. The author does her job rather well, though it's a bit annoying that I can't get to some of her collaborative works because while Te's websites are still up, some of her collaborators have not been so lucky it seems. So, when I'm at my laptop, it's pretty much read that I'm working my way through her Batman archive and probably will start eye-nomming my way through the rest in no particular order.

Beka Cooper: Terrier
So, I read another book by Tamora Pierce... I'm still kinda avoiding the Alana books.. but that might not last very much longer. i adore her Circle of magic series, but Terrier has an advantage as far as sharing it with Sarai goes; it is all from one point of view. Poor girl does not deal with fragmented storytelling or multiple POVs very well at all. Makes reading some of MY favorite books dang near immpossible for her. As Francesca Lia Block has that disoriented dream style and some of my other books switch POVs often enough to confuse her to tears.

Anyroad, I did enjoy Terrier and look forward to reading Bloodhound, too bad it was checked out half an hour before I got to the library. *sigh* But i did put a hold on it, so I'll get it once the current borrower returns it.
