I worked realllllyyyyyy hard on this...I hope you like it!


I can tell it’s him by the laugh,
Which sounds like a bell being dropped onto a rock.
He thinks I don’t notice him,
But he’d deathly wrong.

Everywhere I go,
He’s on my mind.
He’s in my head,
In my field of vision,
And in the air I breathe.

Finally, he comes up and says,
“Baby, it’s you
Who will light up my heart
With love.
So please, baby, please
Don’t ever leave me.
‘Cause if you do, then...
I’ll die.”

Its three months later,
And we haven’t fought once.
It’s too good to be true,
Because every relationship has its rollercoaster moments.
He says the three toxic words,
But do you really mean them?

Still three months later,
And the story goes public.
My stomach grows bigger as he struggle to find a job,
So you can support our soon-to-be-three family.
We fight about hospital bills,
And other stupid things.
I slam the door to the bedroom and cry,
As he sinks into a chair and rubs his face with his hands.

Finally, he comes in and says,
“Baby it’s you
Who lights up my heart
With love.
So please, baby, please,
Forgive me
For my mistakes.
I love you,
And if you leave me...
I’ll die.”
So it’s been four years,
Since we walked down the isle,
And our little tike
Has been here a while.
She walks around,
Trying to be accepted,
But she has us by her side.
In another two months,
We’ll have our first little boy.

Two weeks before he was due,
Our little girl’s got something to do.
She sees the opportunity,
When we are not there,
And steps onto the chair.
The chair goes away,
And she hangs there,
Swinging oh-so slightly.

On the floor by her hanging feet lays a note.
In blood it read:
“Mom and Dad,
You lit the fire
Inside my heart.
You accepted me when none did,
So please, parents, please,
Don’t feel bad.
I love you two,
With all my heart.
So don’t feel bad,
Because I’m dead.
God will be with you,
And He’ll protect me.”

I dropped the note,
And he picked it up,
Reading so slowly.
When he looked up,
He raised his hand,
And before I knew it,
My cheek was on fire with pain.

He continued on,
Until my face was swollen and bruised.
When he was satisfied,
He stormed into the bedroom and slammed the door.
I sat where I was,
Cradling my injured face,
And crawled quietly to the kitchen.
There was the phone,
Sitting on the table,
Within my reach.
Quickly and quietly,
I wrap my fingers around the phone,
And dial the number I never thought I had to use.

When they answered,
I cried with relief,
And told them where they can find me.
Soon they had swarmed around the house,
Police on all sides.
They rush in with a medic,
And get me on a stretcher.
I see him in handcuffs,
Beings pulled and pushed by the officers.

But he breaks free
And runs to me yelling,
“Baby, please.
I did a bad thing,
But not this bad.
Please, honey, please.
Make them go away.
I’ll love you forever,
If you’ll just stay with me.”

The moral of this story
Is not about love.
Or how men can be sometimes.
The moral is this:
Every relationship starts out to be
Too good to be true,
Because we make it that way.
We’re only human,
So we do stupid things.
But remember this story
The next time you fall in love.
And hope that for once,
Nothing is
Too Good To Be True.
