For: CB's Avitober 2025
by Sifen Yamishi
-heard and read in James A. Janisse's voice-
[Intro]
Welcome to the Kill Count, where we tally up the victims in all of our favourite horror movies and show you how they're made! My name is James A. Janisse and today, we're taking a look at the independent movie, "Rooted in Fear", which was released in 2025. "Rooted in Fear" is a kitschy project, full of whim and whimsy, as part of a series called "Tober 2025 Collection" from filmmakers/directors Cure Siating and Nio.
Did I like this movie? I'll admit, I went into this one blind, unsure on what to expect. Was it worth it? Absolutely. It has heart, it has you on the edge of your seat and you never know what is to come. These two went out to make a love letter to cinema, a project where filmmakers from various skill levels and backgrounds were encouraged to submit pieces for a daily prompt on their social media pages.
Are these gardeners in full bloom or will they wither upon the new season's arrival? Let's find out and get to the kills.
[Nio's Burial Scene/Kill]
Niomo goes to look at a plant that irl frog brought to their garden, opting on making sure this sprout blossoms upon being planted. Only to have them shriek in horror, collapsing upon casting eyes on such a thing. Saboteur!
This renders them to hit their head on a toolbench nearby, sending several bags of topsoil to cascade down, burying this gardener of all things varietal in 50 shades of green or so, marking this death in the most ironic way. After 260+ or so pages for archival in the Ber Memorial Garden, such a disaster was likely to happen. I love this homage to "Final Destination" and its Rube Goldberg-esque setup, but it also pays tribute to another eco-horror movie, "Frogs", which we have done a Kill Count for. Check it out!
[Ending]
With a run time of -insert how many pages here-, we have a kill every -insert some stat here-. Wow, wow, wow.
My award for the Golden Chainsaw for best kill has got to be Niomo's death in the garden. Not only is this wonderful scene a tribute to old school horror, but it was wonderfully done with a touch of humour while capturing the genre. Well done!
That's it! "Rooted in Horror" was released in 2025 as part of the "Tober 2025 Collection" to quite the audience, yet alone participation. More movies are in the works and I'm excited to see more from them! Next week, we'll be looking at the next movie, cleverly titled "Don't Be a Scaredy". Until next time, I'm James A. Janisse, and this has been the Kill Count.
-insert trailer for "Don't Be a Scaredy" Kill Count here-
Thanks a lot for watching this Kill Count for "Rooted in Terror". I had a blast making this video and honestly, I'm looking forward to seeing more. -he says so, not knowing there's a lot more movies to go, haha-
Be good people!
