I hate this month and I can not wait for it to be over. Why you ask? Well, look at all the lovely things that have happened so far...
July 29th, niece #3-Ann left here feeling fine, within 1/2 hour my sister Amy is back to leave the other 2 here, she's rushing Ann to the hospital for vomiting bile. Long story short....poor thing, 3 weeks old & she has a UTI--they transfer her up to Shands Hospital in Gainesville (excellent place) & she has a 'kink' in something which causes the urine to back up into the kidneys, causing the infection.
She always voided good & no fever, so who knew? Anyway, she was released 08/03--has been back twice since and they said will continue to monitor her for 2 years, (if she develops abnormal fever get her up there ASAP) and that the kink should straighten itself out within 10 years.
08/03 (day Ann is released) my Uncle David, 39, has a heart attack...but he doesn't want to bother anyone, so he deals with pain, not knowing exactly what is wrong. He drives himself to the hospital the following day. Come to find out he has 80% and 100% blockage in both valves...they put 2 stents in him and so far..knock wood. My Uncle Jimmy calls to tell us this..... kept calling me letting us know the status of Uncle Dave's condition. Finally he calls me to say he's okay. They told him had he not been so fit, he would've died. Anyone else his age would be dead. (he has lifted weights since high school) He's released the 6th of August.
08/09 my niece #2 Kayla catches a staph infection. See's her doctor, gets meds, and starts healing up.
08/13 Kayla gets the staph infection again. Only thing we can figure is she caught it playing at the play center in Burger King. It's the only places she'd been to & then developed the infection. Back to the Dr. & more meds.
08/14 2:35AM, my Uncle Myles who lives in Toms River, NJ.......one of the kids sleeping downstairs on the sofa wakes up cause he smells something. Wakes up my uncle, who searches & when he goes outside on the deck, he looks up to see flames shooting out of the attic! Thankfully all got out of the house alive, but the roof collapsed & destroyed the entire second floor, the rest of the house sustained heavy smoke and water damage and was deemed uninhabitable. They're still in shock. Anyway........insurance is covering their hotel stay & will put them up in an apartment until a new house is built. Talked to him this past Saturday....no luck in an apartment..they will not do a lease less than one year, & if he breaks it (the new house should be ready within 6 months) he has to pay the additional 6 months rent. Unreal, huh.
08/15 my Aunt Cathy, 63 yrs young who has been treated for liver cancer & beat it (so we thought) they found 3 spots on her brain, and started aggressive radiation treatment. Well, she turned yellow (jaundiced) not doing good at all.
08/19 my brother-in-law had caught the staph infection in his knee, it got infected & he went to the hospital, where they kept him for 5 days.
08/22 Aunt Cathy cancelled the treatment, & the Dr informs the family that her liver is shutting down & they need to call in Hospice.
She passed away Monday, 08/27 at 10PM. We found out this morning around 7am
08/25-Baby Brittany 16 1/2 months is our 'guest' for an unknown length of time. Her mom is a victim of Domestic Abuse, and is living in the abuse shelter for a month now. Her ex-boyfriend/Brittany's dad continues to hassle her, caused her to lose the past 3 jobs she'd gotten this month, he's been a real jerk, won't give her Brittany's clothes, anything. Well, long story short, until she gets an apartment we're keeping Brittany here with us. She goes to court I believe Sept. 7th, should know more after that date. It's so hard on her mom right now, this is the first time she & Britt have been apart. Brittany has been attached at the hip now to me ever since.
She cried a bit when her Mom left Sunday afternoon, again when my sister Amy with the 3 girls left, but she's adjusted to being with us here quite well. Her mom will be here again this Saturday (trying to get another overnight pass from the shelter). I'm hoping that Brittany will be used to people in & out of here....as my Dad left here Monday night for work and hasn't been back since..probably won't till Saturday AM.
Sunday night 08/26 was such an adventure shopping. We packed Brittany in her car seat & off we went to WalMart! Such fun picking out dresses, little bitty socks, baby bath stuff, diapers, etc. Brittany's favorite movie is 'Finding Nemo' and our copy skipped, so I bought another copy.
Okay, I feel a little better now that I have vented. I'm heading to bed because Brit. wakes up before 8am. *shudders* I'm use to waking up 10-11am.
