Tall grass, bends in the wind under a baby blue sky.
Sand plays, tumbling over the ground in a swirl of dust.
Light dances on the water,
And fish glide as the sun is cast upon scales,
Patterns splayed out in front of my eyes, of colors I never knew.
Water lilies bloom and spin like teacups on the water,
The chorus of the cicadas blurs into a songbird's tale,
The melody of the afternoon swims around the cattails.
Honeybees kiss wildflowers and the butterflies are drunken on sweet nectar.
As the day grows old and sleepy,
The field is a blaze of gold under a watercolor sunset.
A first star peeks out from the other side of the horizon,
And a soft breeze carries away my wish, a whisper under my breath.
Crescent moon tonight.
