Message: Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.
The rhythmic sound of your footsteps in the snow fills your head as you wander along the hedgerow, your eyes drawn to the scarlet berries blooming sporadically amongst the holly.You come to a sudden stop. What was that? A voice? You pull your scarf more tightly around you, straining your ears to hear the mysterious sound again. There it was! A deep, warm voice, one that filled you with joy, though you could not find the source.
&Beautiful flower! How fresh and pure you are! You are the first; you are the only one! You are our love! You ring out the call of summer, lovely summer, over town and country! All the snow shall melt, the cold winds be driven away! We shall reign! Everything shall grow green! And then you shall have company, the lilacs and laburnums and finally the roses. But you are the first, so tender and pure!&
The voice echoes away, leaving you full of curiosity. You begin to walk forwards to locate its source when a sight by your feet causes you to stop. You bend down to clear the snow away. Freed from its weighty blanket the tiny flower stands to salute you, its perfectly-formed head bobbing in the wind. It looks so small and fragile, almost blending in against the snow, but in its purity you see determination.
A smile spreads on your face as you stand and continue your journey. Through frost and darkness the little flower had fought to reach up towards the sun; you think to yourself that perhaps you ought to follow its example.
Dreams are never as distant as we think.
