Freshman year, carmen and Elvis made a pact to go to the prom together, no matter what. By the time junior year rolled around, carmen wanted to forget the whole thing and stay home, but Elvis wouldn't let her.
"If you don't come with me, I'll tell everyone you love me," Elvis said.
That night the most beautiful long Victorian gown with a tulip skirt appeared to carmen in a dream. She took it as a sign that she should go to prom with Elvis after all. So she said yes, and coughed up the dollars it cost to have her dream outfit handmade.
Before she knew it, it was the night of the dance...
Elvis was late. "The nerve," carmen thought, "after insisting we go together." The later it got, the more nervous she felt. She kept peeking out the window to see if Elvis was coming. Until she got caught...
She had styled her hair in ringlets but it was starting to droop. And her red lipstick was faded. carmen was so mad, she could barely introduce Elvis to her family. They were so excited about the whole thing too. First they made the two of them wear fake Burger King prom crowns and pose for dozens of photos in the kitchen. Then, they kept asking embarrassing questions. Poor Elvis looked like a newborn orangutan in a snazzy white tails, striped cumberbund and two-tone wingtips by the time they were finished with the photos.
It was going to be a loooong night...
When they finally escaped, they hopped in the stretch limo Elvis had rented, and drove away. They'd barely gone a mile when the car came to an abrupt stop. They were out of gas. Luckily, mrs.shane was driving by and gave them a ride the rest of the way. So much for a grand entrance.
By the time they got there, carmen was so over Elvis that she took off with her friend maxwell . They were chatting when carmen's favorite band, white stripes, came on.
carmen and maxwell stood right in front of the stage doing the freak, and pretended like the band was singing especially for them. At the end of the first set, the lead singer asked them to hang out after the prom.
It was like a dream come true...
After the last dance, carmen and maxwell climbed on stage and introduced themselves to the band. Then they waited around while the musicians packed up their equipment. So far, they seemed pretty sexy.
As they were headed outside, Elvis came out of nowhere and started yelling at carmen, calling her a two-timer and worse. carmen did a "talk to the hand" and just kept walking like she didn't hear anything. But everyone else seemed pretty upset.
Someone must have called the cops, because a squad car pulled into the parking lot just as carmen was getting into the band's van. The cops asked carmen if she was with Elvis.
carmen shook her head. "Oh no," she said, "I'm with the band."
