I lay awake, my pulse weak.
My temples throbbing rythmitically with the pounding of my weary heart. Or what was left of it.
Darkness closes in; there's no escape.
From the moment she said "I do" I knew what lie ahead.
I was warned, but to no avail.
That pain was squalid compared to how I feel now.
The white dress hangs from her door, a trophy.
While my soul lie dying on the attic floor.
The pill bottle falls, the white tablets spilling out.
My own sweat freezes on my distorted face,
The moon shines upon the wedding ring that rests so innocently on her crowded bedside table.
I feel my inner self become enveloped in darkness, and I finally give in.
The fight was ended from the beginning, I just wasted my strength.
She had won, she had gained what I had lost.
He would never love me now.
No matter how much he hated me beforehand, that ignorance pales in comparison to my own.
All hell breaks loose, I'm out of luck.
I sold my soul the moment we started this deadly game.
Yet I still fought on.
Darkness overtakes; the winner takes her prize.
And yet all the while my soul lie dying on the attic floor.
