Writings of a Rose
My many roleplay characters
The Celestial Waltz
It was three o’clock in the afternoon. I was young art teacher in my early twenties back then. There was an odd air hanging about that day. It was as if something was trying to tell me something. As I gazed out the window, a young man walked stopped in front of my school. He seemed to be thinking about something as he looked to the newspaper in his hand. I watched him curiously. It seemed he was a college student. I watched as he walked into my building.

“You may go home for today students. We’ll continue the lesson tomorrow.” I spoke to my students as I opened the classroom door, as the few students I had piled out of the room. Once everyone was out of the room I grabbed my bag and my keys and left the room myself. I went out and greeted the man who had just entered the building.

“Good afternoon sir. I am Tsubasa Pandora, the teacher here. What brings you here this day?” He seemed surprised, as he looked down at me. He was tall. His hair was messy, but it looked good on him. His eyes were a deep green.

“Ahh, yes… I am a student at the local University, but their art curriculum seems to be everything I learned in High school. I was wondering if you were taking on any more students. If so I can start today.”

“I’m sorry sir, but I have no more classes for the day. And both my morning and afternoon classes are full.” A look of disapointment seemed to cross his face. I thought a moment, and opened my mouth to speak once more.

“But I do have an opening for private classes. It will cost $60 a month, if you think you can pay me.”

“Of course…! We can start today if it’s ok with you. Oh, by the way my name is Lexis Lakyle.” He seemed to perk back up, holding a few books in his hand, he carefully slipped them into the backpack he held in his other hand.

“Pleased to meet you Mr. Lakyle, we shall hold the sessions at my house. Five days a week, Monday through Friday, starting at 4:30 p.m. then. If you come with me to my house we can start early today.” I smiled to him, I barely knew him and yet, he seemed very familiar. Something began nagging at me in the back of my mind, but I ignored it.

“Let us be off.” I turned and locked the door to the classroom, and then lead him out of the building. We then walked down the street in silence until we got to my house. At that time I was living alone in a small house with only a few rooms.

“This is my art studio. We will hold sessions in here.” I placed my bag down next to the door, as I walked into the room. We then began our first lesson. I lectured about a few things, and then put a canvas and paint in front of him, telling him to paint something. To see where he had room for improvement. We spent the evening talking and laughing during our session. I barely knew him and he had already captivated me.

From that day we met five days a week after my classes for a year. Time passed and my feelings for him had changed. Instead of making him address me as “Miss Pandora” I began letting him call me by my first name, as I also began calling him by his first name. It was Christmas Eve when I finally told him. From that day we were almost inseparable. We enjoyed the last week of Christmas break together, and school began once more.

It was after his last year of college that he suggested we move in together, but he had been living in the dorms of the University, and I lived in a small home. Neither of us had money for a new house either. He moved into my home anyways. He didn’t seem to mind it was so small. I let him use my art studio for his artwork as well. I continued teaching while he sold his paintings. Despite everything, every time we were together something seemed to nag at the back of my mind. And as the years passed, it got worse, and both of us would awake in the middle of the night from the frighteningly dame dream.

Despite all that we stayed together. We had known, and been together four years. It was my twenty-fourth birthday and he took me out for a fine dinner.

“This place is expensive.” I said nervously. We never had gone to a place so expensive, and it made me nervous, especially since he convinced me he would pay.

“Don’t worry about it M’dear.” He smiled to me, which always seemed to calm me. So we ordered our meals, and he ordered for us a bottle of wine. It was obvious to me at that point he was planning something. Just what it was, I wasn’t sure yet. Our food came, and he hadn’t done anything yet. It was halfway through our dessert he looked up to me.

“Let’s go for a walk after this. It’s a nice evening for it.”

“Sure.” If only I knew what was going through his head at that moment.

So, we went for a walk in the park nearby. It was cold, after all it was the middle of winter, but I didn’t mind the cold too much. Evening walks were always my favorite. He took me to the place where he insisted he paint me weeks ago. Under the snow covered tree he brushed some snow from my head and smiled.

“Tsubasa… we’ve been together four years now… And… well…” I watched as he reached into his coat pocket and pulled something out of it. It was too dark to tell though what he had grasped into his palm.

“What I’m saying is… Tsubasa… Will you marry me?” He opened the little box, it was a ring. A silver ring with a small sapphire stone embedded into the band. My hands flew to my mouth as I searched for the words to say.

“Lexis… I… Of course…!” I called to him, hugging him without any warning, and I cried softly into his coat.

If only I knew what destiny had planned for us.

Another year passed, and we were planning to move out of the small little house of ours. Our wedding was close and in fact was going to be held the next day.

That night a black moon rose in the sky. I was in the art studio, finishing up a painting I had been working on for a long time. It was of two wolves of fantasy fighting with one another. One bathed in sunlight, the other in moonlight. Lexis walked in he froze in place as he gazed at the painting.

“Lexis…?” I questioned. The moment I looked back at him he seemed to be in pain. He stumbled back and fell onto the ground. He held his head in pain. A few moments passed and he looked to me with a slight smile.

“I’m ok Tsubasa. I’m going to go to the store real quick.” I nodded to him. I shouldn’t have let him go. If only I knew. At least an hour passed and a rumbling sound could be heard. I hadn’t once looked out the window and to the sky that night. When I finally did I saw the black moon, large and close to our earth.

Immediately I grabbed my coat and ran out the door of the house. I didn’t even bother to lock it. As I ran through the town, looking for Lexis, people were staring up at the sky wondering what was going on. Something inside me was now screaming. I ran faster, I ran to the park and found Lexis. In the spot he proposed to me over a year ago. I looked at him; his back was turned to me as he stare up into the dark sky.

“Tsubasa… … I remember…” He began, stalling his words, keeping his back to me he took a deep breath, and turned. He was crying. I could see his tears on his cheeks as he tried to smile, but failed.

“I remember everything…” It was then he told me. Of our past lives. As he told me everything all the memories came flooding back.

“We are the reincarnations of Fenrir and Cerberus M’dear… Do you remember now?” He spoke to me as I fell onto my knees and held back tears. I shook my head.

Lexis was Fenrir… I was Cerberus… We were destined to fight one another. And one of us was destined to die. Fenrir, despite being the deity of life and nature, was considered evil, in the past he wanted to destroy life on the earth and start over.

“As long as I live, that moon you see will continue to plummet towards the earth.” He said, how he was able to tell me this, how he was even able to speak was beyond me. He was right, it was apparent the dark moon that had risen in the sky was going to crash into the earth.

A silver sword suddenly appeared on the ground next to me. It beckoned me. It beckoned me to wield it and kill Lexis. The fight that begun centuries had to be finished this night. One had to die and the other had to live. If it ended the same way as before the cycle would continue.

I slowly got up to my feet. Lexis that had his back to me once more, had turned, and smiling again he spread his arms out.

“Go ahead M’dear.” That was all he said to me. I held the sword in my hands. It was heavy, as I held it I panted. I didn’t want to. I didn’t want to kill Lexis.

“Tsubasa! Do it!” He called to me, still standing now his arms at his sides. Without thinking I shot forward. The sword moved and felt it hit him. It cut through his stomache. Immediately I dropped the sword, and caught Lexis in my arms.

I sat there and cried with him in my arms. Even Lexis cried, quietly, but he cried with me until he finally drifted away. The dark moon was now gone, as if it had never existed. I then lay bathed in moonlight, covered in Lexis’s blood, holding his body close to me.

His funeral was only a day later. Despite what really happened everyone remembers Lexis’s death differently. Everyone had the memories that Lexis was shot by a man running from the police. No one else would ever know what really happened.

Turned out I was pregnant a week later when I went in for a check up to my doctor. I broke down and cried in the middle of the hospital. I was never able to tell Lexis I was pregnant with his child. I didn’t even know when he was alive.

A year has past since then. I no longer teach. But I still paint. Many of my paintings are inspired by the times past, when Lexis was alive. I make a lot on my paintings these days. I even do special mural paintings once in a while. Despite the money I make I still live in my little house. This time with my child… our beautiful child.
