About The Man With The Optic Beams. . .
- Real Name: Scott Summers
- Powers: Scott has beams that come out of his eyes. They are both his power and his curse, because he cannot control them without the aid of a ruby-quartz visor.
- Background: Scott was flying in a plane with his father, mother, and younger brother when it began to crash. The plane was on fire, and his father and mother gave him and his brother Alex the one parachute. They stayed on the plane (it was later discovered that his father survived). The parachute broke, and the boys crash landed, Scott suffered head injuries, and got amnesia. Scott and Alex wound up at an orphanage. Alex was adopted, but Scott lived at the orphanage until he ran away and found Proffesor Xavier, who taught him how to use his powers. However, Scott still couldn't control the blasts, most likely because of his head injuries. Scott became a member of the X-Men. A few years after joining, he found his brother, and discovered he was a mutant as well.
When the X-Men (Angel, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Beast, Havok, and Polaris) went on a mission to find a mutant, on a desert island, they were captured. The mutant was the island itself! Scott was released, and went back to the Professor, who gathered new mutants to him, to rescue the X-Men. After the rescue mission, which was succesful, the original X-Men left, they'd grown up. All except Scott, who felt he couldn't live a normal life with his out of control optic blasts. He stayed, and became the leader of the new X-Men. (He eventually left to recover from Jean Grey's death.)
Where is He Now: Scott is married to Madeline Pryor, a girl with a strange resemblance to Jean Grey. She is a pilot, and he flies with her. Though he occasionally assists the X-Men, he has a life outside of the X-Men now, and seems to have finally distanced himself from the super hero life. Of course, who nows how long that will last?
