(( Another short piece by me. ))
Dawn was approaching in Gaia, the sky seemed to burn with brilliant color as the sun slowly began to rise. Polaris, having camped out for the night, awakes in his sleeping bag, sits up slowly and rubs his eyes, the warmth of his campfire having gone out some hours ago he wrapped tightly in his jacket.
A lot had happened to him recently, the woman who he thought loved him disappeared on him out of the blue, people he once called friends were turning their backs and worst of all, some of them he couldn't remember due to his amnesia. As the days passed his memory slowly returned and he remembered certain people, things and his powers were returning, but he still felt saddened by all that had happened. He pulled out an old picture, taken some years ago with a couple of his old friends.
The picture had himself, his friend Doe and a friend he learned had been dead for sometime, Flash. They were all smiling brightly with Doe's head leaning onto Flash's shoulder and his head on hers, while Polaris sat beside Doe with a smile on his face, a rare sight that many people seemed to love. They all sat on the hood of what seemed to be a red sports car, before an old sorority house on a clear sunny day. This was the last time he had ever seen Doe and Flash together in the same place before they went away to live a more peaceful life, Polaris swore that he would do his best to keep Gaia at peace while Flash and Doe had their chance to live. It has now been almost 2 years since that day and a lot has changed since then.
He sighed, slipping the picture back into his pocket, he sighed, brushing the silver locks from his sky blue eyes, looking saddened. He gripped the sleeping bag a bit and closed his eyes.
"If only you were still alive, I could use some advice right about now." he said in an almost whisper.
The wind blew in the trees for a moment, the sound of a motor running heard in the distance, looking up he thought it might be some person hustling his way to work, but over the lush grasslands, he saw nothing. Sighing again, he slowly wormed his way out of the sleeping bag and started to pick up his camp, just then, he heard a voice.
"You rang?" came a familiar voice.
At first he didn't believe it, he wasn't sure if he could believe it, slowly he looked up toward the voice and there, with his arms crossed, sitting on the hood of the red convertable was none other than Flash himself, giving a nod and smile he spoke once more.
"I have a house call for advice? Is Mr. Polaris in today?" he chuckled a bit.
Polaris smiled a little bit and continued to pick up his camp, starting off by rolling up his sleeping bag.
"Yeah he is." he replied, half-heartedly.
"Uh oh, what's wrong mate?" Flash began, standing up and stretching himself out, his eyes narrowing on him, "Let me guess, woman trouble?"
Polaris didn't reply, he just stopped what he was doing and looked down at the grass. Flash sighed and walked over toward him, sitting across the way by the smoldering campfire, looking over at him.
"Well you've come to the right person mate, so what's been happening?" he asked.
Composing himself, Polaris sat himself up straight on his knees, traditionally as he usually would, staring across the campfire, he began to speak.
"A woman whom I thought loved me, up and left some weeks ago, before I had my crash. She had stayed with me after I had rescued her from being killed, of course even before then, I found myself falling for her and she for me." he began.
"Sounds like you, you always were a charmer when you weren't trying." he chuckled.
"What about you Mr. Ladies Man?" Polaris teased, smirking a bit.
"Me? You were quite the lucky b*****d yourself. You don't realize how many women have been crushing on you but now it all seems like a memory." he said, "You had a natural charisma, you didn't have to do anything to get anyone's attention, you just got looks by various ladies I will tell you that. But anyway, go on."
"For all that time, before I had decided maybe I should just go home, I had tried to contact her, to ask her if there was anything I did wrong. I didn't get any responses, I just lost it from there and went to my ship, but as you can see I'm still here and not without bruises." Polaris continued.
Flash simply nodded.
"One day I woke up in a friend's place, the woman had come to find me, then a whole fight happened between her and my other friend." he nodded.
"Other friend?" Flash asked.
"Her name is Tiera..." Polaris began, pulling out his journal and showing him a rather detailed sketch of her, seeing Flash's eyes bug out, he shut the book and continued, "...she came to find me after I had been gone from home for a while."
"I see..." Flash replied, clearing his through gesturing for Polaris to continue his story, muttering something under his breath.
"When she had Tiera cornered, the woman started to talk about how she loved me and had always loved me. After a while, I got Tiera to leave us alone." he paused, "I having no memory of this woman asked her to elaborate. She simply said that we were very much in love, but then the man who tried to kill her came back and she started having old feelings come back, thats why she disappeared."
"Wait a minute now hold on." Flash stopped him, "Who tried to kill this woman that loved you and what's this woman's name anyhow?"
"At Nicky's bar one night, Sarpedon had gone nuts and burned down Nicky's place, I had to save her." Polaris said.
Flash just sat there in a stunned silence, looking down at the floor, trying to shake off what Polaris had just said.
"Wait a minute, did you say Sarpedon?" he asked.
Polaris simply nodded.
Flash just shook his head in disbelief.
"Wow..." he began, "...Sarpedon...thats some deep s**t you've gotten yourself into. But then again its amazing you could make Sarpedon's girl fall for you."
"I never tried to..." Polaris said.
Flash just smiled over at him.
"Now don't take that like its a bad thing mate." he said, "I'm not sure how to explain it, but, you've got a big heart, I guess aside from the stunning good looks right over here." he pointed out Polaris' face, hair and eyes, "The ladies seem to be attracted to your heart. I've seen you with Spiral, I know how you loved her purely and unconditionally, that and you're so patient, much more than I and to win over Sarpedon's woman is truly proving that."
Polaris smiled a bit and looked over at Flash.
"You should do that more often too, no one ever sees you smile and it looks good on you believe me." he said, "Ladies like that, it shows you've got heart and are not all business."
Polaris nodded.
"I love Nicky, so very much and all I want is for her to be safe and happy." he said.
"Then you gotta fight for her." Flash replied, "If you love her as much as you say, then you have to prove that to her."
"I know, but now is not that time." he said, "When she feels ready to talk, she knows she can come to me."
"No no no, you have to be the one to make the first move." Flash said, "If you truly love her like you say, you gotta make the effort, if you can do that, you can show her how much you want her in your life, how much you want to be with her. No excuses and no exceptions."
Polaris nodded and got up slowly to pack up his camp again. In not too long, he had everything in his backpack once more and was ready to hit the road. He turned to Flash, who was going back to the convertable and smiled.
"Feelin' a little bit better?" he asked.
"Well..." Polaris sighed, "Theres...Doe too..."
"What? What happened to Doe?!" Flash got a frightened expression on his face and started to sound worried.
"Nothing, nothing." Polaris replied, "I just haven't been able to talk to her lately, I miss her and I rarely see her anymore, I feel like we're growing apart."
"Is that all?" Flash began to laugh, "You're a worry wart sometimes I swear. All you really need to do is go to her and give her a big hug. She cares for you too you know."
He nodded and smiled again.
"Well I'd better get back to the road, I've got a lot to do." he said.
"Alright, well if you ever need advice again, you know who to call." Flash said.
Giving a nod, Polaris hit the road once more the sun having risen up once more, the sky alight with a beautiful sky blue and not a single cloud to be seen. Watching Polaris walk away, Flash's image slowly started to fade. Walking down the road, Polaris looked up into the sky, with new hopes and a smile on his face all the while hearing the voice of his old friend.
"When we first met you were 17, though still a child in some aspects, you were quite grown up for that age, you're almost 21 now and even I'm amazed at how much you've grown. Keep your head high and follow your heart, you can never go wrong."
