Beginning of a Story that Currently Has No Title.
I'm not quiet sure what to title this. Any suggestions would be loved and hugged with Mimzy^_^ Also, tell me what you think of it. And remember, this isn't the entire thing. I haven't finished that yet...
“Eliana!! Give me your hand, we need to get out!” The small girl reached out for the hand that was faintly visible through the smoke filled cellar while struggling to keep her hold on a rabbit plushie by the name of Boonie. Boonie had served as her best friend for as long as Eliana could remember, and she wasn’t about to lose her, even if a raging fire stood behind her. “Daddy, I can’t reach!” she wailed. “Just jump a little higher!” her father called back. The hand was thrust further down, trying to make it easier for his daughter. She jumped up as high as she could, holding Boonie close to her heart. Her fingertips briefly touched the rough hand before sinking back to the ground. The voices of encouragement flew back into the room, and she tried again. This time she managed to grip onto his hand. Another hand reached down and grabbed her singed T-shirt. She was quickly hauled out just before the entire cellar collapsed. “Oh thank goodness you’re alright,” Eliana was quickly spun the warm body of her father. “Daddy, I was scared,” she sniffed, trying to hide the teardrop that rolled down her cheek, attempting to prove that she was a big girl, and didn’t have to cry. “I know, I was, too,” he said softly, stroking her head slowly. She couldn’t hold it in anymore, and collapsed into his chest, crying her heart out. “It’s ok,” he comforted her, dabbing Eliana’s eye with a tattered rabbit ear. “Go ahead, cry, just let it all…” She sniffed as she looked up at her father. His head was frozen into a look of surprise and fear. Before Eliana could ask what was wrong, he pushed her out of the way. He braced himself right in front of her just as a thunder crash filled the air. The small girl wailed again as-“ Eliana shot out of her bed, sending the light blue sheet to the floor. Her body was covered in sweat, or was it tears? Either way she and the bedspread were soaking wet. She hastily glanced around the room, as if to make sure it was still there. Same off-white walls, same wooden door, same small twin beds, although both were neatly made and empty. She sighed. Obviously, she’d overslept. As she opened the closet where both her and her roommates kept their clothes, her mind raced, collecting the last details of the dream. She’d had the same dream for the past week now, and had practically memorized it, although there were some parts that were still very shadowy and hazy. And she always woke up just as the father was about to…well, she really didn’t know. But who? Eliana thought as she slid a blue T-shirt with a floral design on the front. But who is the little girl? That question was the only one she could answer. For some reason, she was positive that little girl was her. As if the dream was a memory being played over and over. But it couldn’t. She had no recollection of any big disaster of sorts. She couldn’t even remember ever having a parent. Eliana had lived in the orphanage as long as she could remember, and as far as she knew, her entire life. She turned back to her hopelessly messy bed. She would never be able to finish making it in time to catch breakfast. It’ll have to wait till after she ate. But just as Eliana turned to leave the dorm, her eyes fell onto a stuffed animal that was lying on the floor next to the bed. Its limbs were bent at odd angles, and its long ears were flopped over the button eyes. The bunny’s name was Boonie. As with the orphanage, Boonie had been in her life forever. She couldn’t even remember naming the rabbit. But nonetheless, she collected the plushie off the ground and placed it gingerly in its proper place on her nightstand. “Eli? Are you awake?” Eliana turned her head towards the door in time to see Julie, one of her roommates, poke her head through the door. “Oh good, you are. Well, just want to let you know that the cafeteria is open for another hour or so. You’d better hurry, you know how Nanny gets when someone is really late.” Eliana nodded subconsciously, purposely paying more attention on Boonie then Julie. Julie waited a couple more seconds to see if she’d get a spoken response, but retreated back to the hall when none came. Eliana felt a pang of guilt about that. Julie really was nice, never too pushy to make her talk. But almost everyone who’d been there awhile knew that getting a word out of Eliana was a rare sight. Some speculated that she had permanently lost her voice. She’d considered the possibility herself, although never really tested it out. She sighed. She felt as if she was going to burst. To let out all of the things she’d kept bottled up for so many years. But that would have to wait. Julie was right, Nanny would have a fit if she didn’t show up for breakfast. Finally abandoning Boonie, she shuffled to the door, and exited out into to the hallway.
