I had a most interesting experience. I was submitted to my local hospital on Sunday with severe (and I mean OMG I'm doubled over, severe) stomach pains. They took a CT scan, a sonogram and found that I had a larger appendix than normal. They said I have appendicitus and that I would go into surgery the next day. Meanwhile, I was to be admitted to the hospital to stay for monitoring.
I was on a NPO restriction. That means from Monday at 3:30am to Tuesday at 9:30 am I couldn't ingest anything. No drink. Period. No food. Period. I was hooked up to an IV all 28 hours I was there. My arm is still sore from having that needle in me. Blah. It was kind of scary staying the night at a hospital. Random people come in and inject stuff into your bloodstream. Yep. Scary.
Turns out that since I didn't have all the syptoms of Appndicitus, I didn't have to have the surgery and they sent me home. The doctor warned me that if it gets bad again I can RUPTURE my appendix. That is more painful than just the appendicitus infection. Which leads me to the question...
What the ********? Why not just remove it before it ruptures!!!!!!!!!!
BUT! They gave me opium, anti-nausea, and anti-acid meds. So, I shouldn;t have the pain again. If I do, I WILL get surgery to have it removed.
