Zeus and the Creation of Mankind
Zeus and the Creation of Mankind is a myth about a god named Zeus who gives commands to two Titans, Prometheus and Epimetheus to create both the life of animals and mankind. A myth is a story of gods and goddesses with a lesson at the end of it. This is similar to the religion of Egyptians, because they believed in many gods and goddesses like the Greeks. There is an example of one of the Greek gods, Zeus, in the story Zeus and the Creation of Mankind. There are not many gods or goddesses involved in this story, but it tells a lot about the Greek’s religion, and the way they view how Earth started. This story mainly focuses on Prometheus, who is trying to create mankind. On the other hand, Epimetheus is asked to create the life of animals. Without thinking, Epimetheus gives all the powers he can thinks of to the animals. Prometheus soon finds out and tries to think of an even better power to the humans. He thinks on for days, and finds out what he does want to give to the humans, the gift of fire. He asks the goddess Artemis to give him the power to do so, and she agrees, so Prometheus gives the gift of fire to the humans. Meanwhile, Zeus finds out. Zeus gets enraged when he finds out what Prometheus was planning to give the power of fire to the humans, why that was his power! He sends Prometheus to get punished for that. He ties Prometheus to a mountain, and commands a vulture to feast on his liver daily. Meanwhile, Epimetheus finds him and builds an ark. He uses it to save both Prometheus and Epimetheus from a flood. That is how the story ends. You can compare this myth to how other religions believe in how Adam and Eve and how they were the first people to live, and that they were created by God. Other religions, such as Judaism, believe in only one God, while others, such as Greece and Egypt, believe in more than one god. Also, Greeks and Egyptians believe in goddesses, while Judaism focuses on only God, no “Goddess”. This story really expresses Greek religion. Zeus and the Creation of Mankind is a great story that tells a lot of how Greeks thought life on Earth was created. It tells a lot about how Greek religion was made and how Zeus commanded Titans to create humankind, and animal life. It is also very easy to compare religious beliefs because of the story’s telling. Zeus and the Creation of Mankind was a very “educational’ book. (Don't ask xp )
