Mmm... digits.
Still holding your breath?
Wow, I love busy schedules. gonk Let's see how this fares...

When you were a kid, what superhero/cartoon character did you most want to be?
Sailor Mercury. crying There are times that my friends and I still call each other Ami, Mako, Mina, and Serena. xd There's a good chance I really just wanted her blue hair and knee-high boots. In fact, I think I still want her boots.

Any "guilty pleasure" singers/bands, movies, etc. ?
Yeah... I still listen to the Backstreet Boys. I first grew into them because my music tastes were so radically different from my friends in high school that I had no basis for communication. Since music is such a big thing to me, I decided to give it a shot. In fact, the first CD I ever bought was a BSB CD, and I felt bad buying it in front of my mom because it was so different from the stuff she listened to (and, consequently, I listened to). Generally, being 14 was a very awkward stage for me. xp

I also love A Knight's Tale. I know it sucks as a movie, but I'm still addicted to Heath Ledger's smile. I tend to get distracted by shiny things, and while I know consciously that they suck, I still end up liking them. So, really, I've got a long list of guilty pleasures.

If you were Ruler of the World suddenly, what would your first order of business be?
Hm... if I weren't thinking about this logically, I would demand to meet Paul McCartney. xd More seriously, I would probably employ some well-constructed policy on balancing education in economic situations. I think tax money should go primarily to everybody's education, since education holds the most economical value in any society.

Have you ever wanted to travel away from your country, and if so where to?
I had the great fortune of visiting Scotland a couple years ago, and I thought it was a gorgeous country. I refuse to die until I have visited Italy.

What is that one thing that gets under your skin enough to drive you mad?
Ignorance. Stupid is forgivable, as are mistakes. But blatant ignorance is the ultimate form of disrespect, in my eyes.

If you can't sleep, what do you do?
Think. That can range from panicking about upcoming assignments to creating scenes of fiction to building philosophy to having a song stuck in my head. It's almost like a "cool-down" period for my brain - it can't just stop thinking immediately and sleep. It needs time to wind down and settle on more subconscious issues.

What was your favorite game when you were a child?
Honestly, playing with my imaginary friends. My siblings and I would throw huge parties or go on great adventures or even play with dolls, since they were also friends of sorts. Every one of my 30+ Barbies had a name, history, and personality all her own, and I knew them all like close friends. I was decidedly an introvert growing up. xp

I have always loved card games, though, and I played a lot of spades, euchre, bridge, Egyptian rat screw, and 10-2 slide in high school. My dad's a life master in bridge, so I wanted to get to that point for a while. Unfortunately, it's rough being the youngest person in the room by 30 years. >.< Maybe someday.

If you could have any animal for a pet, what would it be?
I want a cat so badly. crying I couldn't have one growing because my dad's allergic to them, and my mom didn't want to clean up after one.

If I could have any animal, assuming it could be domesticated, I would totally want a tiger. That's a kitty.

Who're your top three favorite authors?
Back when I really read, I loved Philip Pullman, Tamora Pierce, and Umberto Eco. But it's been a long time since I've been able to indulge in reading fiction for fun. I recently picked up a romance novel for giggles and was able to read 400 pages in 24 hours because I miss reading so much.

What is your favorite pie? XD
Pumpkin. 4laugh Followed closely by French silk.

If you had 1 million dollars, what would you do with it?
First of all, half goes into investment. Nothing better than money earning itself more money. Then I'd start by getting an apartment, then a car, then go on a clothing shopping spree, then a computer shopping spree (custom case, anyone?), then build a sheet music library like none other. Then maybe a smattering of nice technology and CDs. Then I'd travel. I never really got a whole lot of chances to travel, and there are so many places around the world that I would love to see.

What are your main and strongest philosophical beliefs?
Tell me each one in one short sentence, such as -
There is one truth - metaphysical staple, of course.

The Golden Rule - treat others as you want to be treated. I stand by this more than any other philosophy in the world.
Divine justice: if you do bad things, bad things will happen to you.
Those are the two biggies.

When was the last time you played extreme frisbee?
I don't think I've ever played extreme frisbee. But I'm an avid ultimate frisbee player, though I haven't played since early last semester.

Where did you get your username?
This actually isn't my original username. I was initially "weisslover" when I first joined Gaia in August 2003. I ran a contest for my birthday back in 2004. It was a short story contest, where the title had to be the prospective username and the story was based on that username. The actual title of the story was "Have your pi and e it too" (one of those geeky science T-shirt lines), but I thought the shortened version worked better.

Any style of music that just drives you up the wall?
Kontri. crying

Let me clarify - there is some decent country out there. Really, what I love is a good country-rock fusion. But nothing turns me off more than "Dropkick Me, Jesus, Through the Goalposts of Life."

What is the last number of pi, in your opinion?
Pi. xd Honestly, it would be nice to see either 0 or 4 at the end of the rope (even though I know, as a mathematician, that there is no end of the rope xp ).

What is the last number of e?
I'm feeling a 3 or an 8 on this one.

Why do I ask weird math questions?
'Cause I'm a weird math person. xd

Are there any really popular poets/writers that you really hate? why?
What I hate more than the poets themselves is people who abuse popular poets in all the wrong ways, such as Poe and Cummings. Poe was dark, but that doesn't mean you have to write dark stories. Cummings didn't use traditional grammar, but that doesn't justify your lack of grammar. -_-

I can't stand Paolini. I got through 5 pages of Eragon, and I couldn't go any further. It's just bad. Very, very bad. This is really the only reason money is evil.

I never understood the Maya Angelou fascination, either, but that's not quite hate.

What kinds of users/people make you tick?
The kinds of people who know how to balance sarcasm and their sense of humor.

What's your shoe size?
What's the shoe? gonk It can range from 7-8, though 7 1/2 tends to work in most scenarios.

What kind of grades did you get in High school?
Well, I got straight As my freshman year, then I transferred to a harder school. I almost failed a class in the first semester of my junior year, but I pulled myself up again and got straight As again in my senior year.

What's your most embarrassing moment that you remember?
We were doing a piece in choir called "Sleep" by Eric Whitacre, and at the end of a beautiful, quiet phrase, I let out about the loudest hiccup one could muster. It took me a long while to join in again. redface Thank goodness it was in rehearsal.

Would you rather:
-Give away 100,000 dollars
-or-
-Keep 1000 dollars for yourself?

I'd rather give it away. Honestly, $1,000 doesn't mean a whole lot to me right now. Five years ago, that would've been a harder questions. But I'd rather give the larger sum to my old high school rather than spend the smaller amount on books.

What's the one situation/experience that has changed your view on life, if there is one? ^__^
My first serious relationship was probably the most jarring experience I can remember. I grew up on the Disney princesses, and I was convinced that the first person I fell in love with would be forever. Turns out, the first person I fell in love with ended up being really weird and seemingly only wanted me for sex (which he never got). It took me a long time to accept that fiction was fiction for a reason. xp

In a way, my current relationship has also changed my perspective on love in particular. I figured that, like my parents, I wouldn't find someone to marry until my late 20s. I also wanted to sample a variety of guys before settling on just one - almost like a science experiment. xp But... I don't think it's about variety anymore. That's what crushes and fantasies are for. Real love means holding onto a person without realizing how close you're holding them, wherever you go. It means having the trust of a friend and the lust of a lover in the same person. It's about building a detailed network of inside jokes, glances, and moments that no one else can decode or untangle. It's very different from the Hollywood true love that I've been expecting all my life.

Really, that also sums up that I think love is the most important part of life. I think that's the most tangible spiritual concept we can feel. Religion is still a very vague thing for me, but love is the closest thing I can find and connect to it. Even then, religion, in its most positive form, is all about love. Not in the hippie sense, though. wink

That was kinda fun. whee I might be willing to field a few more if people are still curious.

rofl I wanted to be Sailor Mercury too! Although I identified more with her being the "smart one" in the group.

And don't be ashamed, I still listen to BSB too. Bought their last CD, even. NSYNC, too. xd

I never got the Maya Angelou fascination, either. That "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" might be good -- I dunno, I haven't read it -- but her poetry's not that amazing.

That last part was very nicely said. Don't hate on hippies, though. talk2hand

I always wanted to be Rei. @.@

That piece must be really good or something. My friend's choir sang it, and a choir at my school is also singing it. I sometimes sing really off tune. And I sing really loud. ninja

    Weisslover? rofl

Hey, no hippie hate here. xd Just clarifying.

Listen to as much Whitacre as you possibly can. He is the beacon of "classical" choral music today. "Sleep" is one of his most gorgeous pieces.

Yeah... the "weisslover" thing is happily behind me. Though I do love the Trogdor sig I made for that avatar. whee

xD That's cool. Sailor Mercury... I used to watch that show. She was the one with the blue hair right? I haven't seen it for a while.

I also find that fantastic that you'd give the larger amount rather than keep the smaller amount. I really find that to be interesting. I'd definitely give away the larger amount because it makes more sense to me.

Well I had a great time learning a little bit about you. ^^

Feel free to go to my journal I think it's pretty helpful. You wouldn't need it but I tell about my experience here on Gaia and help newer people to understand the Rules & Guidelines and explain to them what the consequences would be if they didn't follow them. I'd love to hear what you think of it. ^^
