on to the stuff-age!
mildly discomforting...
I was in english class and was getting a tad philosophical. Somehow the conversation strayed to global warming and such and I mentioned that I was more concerned about overpopulation.

I came to the conclusion that the best course of action would be to have an ordered mass genocide wiping out 80% of the population and leaving only those fit to live on this planet alive.

This method may seem incredably extreme at first but when you think about it something must be done... 1 person dies every second and 2 people are born every second. That means that the population of the world is rising at a rate of 1 person per second.

Eventually we will run out of room. Of course far before this we will run out of natural resources and may be forced to resort to canabalism. I'm not even going to talk about all the polution and animal/plant life we're endangering.

Thus a genocide that left only the people worthy of this wonderful planet would be the best course of order. I figure that if we go for less than 50% we won't actually halt overpopulation just delay it. As a result we would have to start all over again later on.

You may think this is a horrible way of thinking, but look at it this way. Suppose your in a crowded elevator full of about 20 people. Only 4 people would survive this massive genocide and they would only be the best people. Do you really think that our planet needs all 20 of those people? Virtually everyone has sinned at least once in their life, and lately my faith in the human race just continues to go down...

No one respects strangers anymore, you all push them out of the way so that your own needs can be fulfilled. And a world with only the people you know respecting you isn't a world at all.

Too many people have no regard for rules or guidlines set up in their society, or rather they think themselves above the rules. Everyone is cruel and insulting to their neighbours and true love is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

Darwinism states that nature is based upon 'survival of the fittest' and like it or not humans are part of nature. People who do nothing but pull down society and are only out for themselves certainly don't seem fit enough to exist on this world to me.

You may argue that countless innocents would die but in truth no one is really innocent. Many would die who don't deserve the death penalty for their sins but thats not all too different from life as it is now.

If a person is hit by a drunk driver and is over the age of 80 is it really worth keeping them alive in a hospital when a child is dying? If you said yes would it still be the same if the person hit was paralyzed from the waste down? Fully paralyzed? Retarded? or even in a vegetative state?

The answer is that you should let the victim die in order to save the younger life. The drunk driver isn't punished so severely as to die and the one he hit did nothing wrong, they were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. Life is cruel and unfair but it is life. Everything should be done for the greater good.

You may say that humans can change and thats probably true. The problem is that the majority of us don't want to change. Its human nature to act the way we are acting. To change fast enough to stop whats happening we would have to transcend humanity and become something completely different.

Besides, the only real reason your coming up with all these arguments is fear. Your afraid for yourself, if only 20% of the world would survive and these people would be only the best of the best do you really think you would make the cut?

Truly?

are you exceptionally Smart? Athletic? Kind? Do you think you're Smarter, More athletic or kinder than 80% of the planet? I doubt it.

Honestly I know I wouldn't make the cut. My physical body is quite weak and I'm not a particularly kind person to everyone. All I've got going for me is my unique way of thinking and relatively high intelligence. However I've realized that I wouldn't make the top 20%, perhaps 30% or even 25% (I'm thinking I'd survive in 24% or worse) I'd make it but with only 2 out of every 10 people surviving I'd die along with the rest of you.

The scary part is that I'm still all for this idea, I wouldn't want to be the one to recomend it to anyone or execute it myself but if it happened I wouldn't be against it. The only thing I'd be against is if it was run by a government of some sort. Bias exists in every adult. Probably only a child whos heart is pure and free of corruption would be able to make the choice.

I'm hoping for it to come as some divine act, for lightning to strike the impure or for all those who didn't make the cut to burst into flames. Unfortunately I seriously doubt that any higher power would go through all that trouble just for us. Humans aren't the centre of creation.

I dunno, maybe I've just been reading too much Deathnote/Petshop of horrors.

Hehe. I'm a little late huh?

But you bring up a lot of good points. I'd go with the idea but I'd want it to be put off until the government is right. Because no matter how many people you kill, if the leaders are corrupt, nothing will change.

And lately, humanity really has developed too much mercy. It's up to the point that you could compare it to one of those cliche, goody goody, super annoying heroes that are waaaay too happy that they're practically contradicting themselves.
Probably there's so much mercy that it's sadistic. Like, if someone has committed enough crimes, they'll be in jail for the rest of their life. Might as well kill them right? It'll end their suffering anyway.

And the divine act is already occurring. Except it's bent on killing us all. Viet Nam's already starting to feel the punishment...

I bet all the fire deities are working over time on this though. And then most of us will drown when the ice caps melt. The rest of us will die from the massive droughts.

Hehehe, I feel like a preacher with the last two paragraphs. And I think you'd make the cut. Look at you thinking all this up. Even if you're average in everything else, you're quite the philosopher. Paired with someone who can make the right choices, the world would probably be a better place.

I wouldn't mind dying for the world. As long as I die with those I love (who didn't make the cut either) and I die as painlessly as possible.
