The Influence of Technology
Ever since I was young I had a fascination with computers. I loved to play games like Museum Mysteries and Dr. Brain. Little did I know then that my attraction to these games would lead me to a love of other computer aspects.
Once I discovered the internet and the wondrous items that could be found there, I always wanted to know how it was done. All the colors, shapes, designs, appeal; they enthralled me. It was right around my eight grade year that I made my first website. Although it was not anything spectacular, I had gotten my feet wet in HTML, a whole new language and world to me. Since it was my website, I got tired of using other people’s pictures and graphics. It seemed like it would be a complicated, terrible process to make my own, since the only program I knew of was Paint, which is extremely limited in its uses. Getting Adobe Photoshop 6 with Image Ready, my world seemed to change. My website now had a personality of its own; a purpose. Some people liked my graphics so much, I started taking requests. These request resulted in an entirely new website, requiring more knowledge of HTML.
After using Photoshop for a while, my interest has grown as to how these kinds of programs are created. As of now, creating a program seems as though it would be a complicated, terrible process. In an attempt to learn more, I signed up for my schools Computer Science class. Much to my dismay, only one other person attempted to enroll in the class, so the class was canceled. As I second attempt to learn more about Computer Science, its applications and uses, I will be doing a paper for a class, called the I-Search, on Computer Science. Since it is a research paper, I will be able to explore the seemingly unlimited fields Computer Science can apply to, what kind of classes I can take when I major in it, and talk to people in a related field to discover more about this subject. It is a possibility that I will get an internship with PepsiAmericas this upcoming summer and work with Computer Analysts to get a taste for the work.
My interest in computers has taken me a long way. It is one of my true passions in life and I hope to find a career after graduation where I can work with computers and be able to create projects – whether graphics, programs, or something entirely different – and be happy with my decision for the rest of my life.
