Years later, Ann was assigned to Team 7 under Kakashi, with Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura,a nd Ravi. Since their Academy years, Ann and Ravi had caused a different type of chaos that Naruto had brought to the table, and somehow Kakashi was the one to reel them back in. The Copy Nin had become their unofficialhandler when he wasn'trunning missions, as he was the only one who could handle their destructive tendencies and not come back burned or traumatized.

The five were the last team in the classroom after Iruka announced how they were grouped together.
Naruto~Where the hell is he?!
Sakura~What kind of sensei does this?
Ravi~Come on Naruto, you know he did that to us ever since we met him.
Ann~You’d think the dumbass would be on time for this though…
Naruto grinned and got up to go to the backboard.
Sakura~What the hell are you doing?
Naruto~I’m gonna teach him a lesson!
He took an eraser and chair and went to the sliding door. The blond wedged the erase between the door and top the frame.
Sasuke~That can’t possibly work, Naruto.
Sakura~Yeah. Kakashi sensei is a jounin. He’d–
The door opened and the eraser landed on Kakashi’s head. Sakura facepalmed as Naruto laughed.
Kakashi~You guys aren’t making a very good first impression.
Ann~Neither are you for being hours late.
Kakashi~Let’s get some fresh air and go on the roof then. Come on now.
They all sighed and followed him out.

At the rooftop, Kakashi asked them to introduce themselves, and even went first when Sakura asked. The teens all sighed at his example when he didn’t provide actual answers to his questions other than his name. Naruto mainly spoke about ramen, Sakura fangirled over Sasuke, and Sasuke brooded over revenge.
Kakashi~If only I had these three…Next. Who knows what these two will say…
Ravi~My name is Ravi Oli. I like weapons, sparring, and collecting matches. I don’t like it when people call me a pyro or make fun of my name. I’d like to rule the world with Ann in the future.
While Naruto cowered behind Sakura, Kakashi facepalmed and signaled Ann to go next.
Ann~My name is Ann. I like weapons too, specifically swords. I hate when people try to pry about my past before the academy. So when that happens, I very much like to threaten their lives to make them stop. For the future…For the future I want truth.
Kakashi eyed her for a moment.
Kakashi~Care to explain? I didn’t expect to get something personal from her today.
Ann~Can’t explain what I don’t know.
Kakashi sighed~Alright. You’re all unique and have your own ideas. Tomorrow, we’ll have your first mission, a survival exercise.
Naruto~That’s bullshit. We’ve done plenty of those.
Kakashi~This is different.
Sakura~How different?
Kakashi chuckled, so Ann threw a blank scroll at him.
Ann~Get on with it.
Kakashi~This will be a make it or break it test. Failure sends you back to the academy.
Ravi~If that’s the case, why even have me and Ann with you and create a larger squad?
Kakashi~You two are a special case. And well…No one wanted to separate you two and no one wanted you as a duo or solo either.
Ravi~We’re not that bad.
She waved him off.
Ann~To be fair, Ravi, you and I did tie Kakashi naked to that street pole our first year together…And we made the interrogation division get creative and re-write their protocols when they accused us of tampering with international intelligence last year.
Sasuke~Did you tamper with their scrolls?
Ann and Ravi scoffed.
Both~Of course not!
Kakashi~Moving on…Tomorrow, 5:00 am, at the designated training. I don’t recommend eating beforehand.
Sakura~Why not?
Kakashi~You’ll puke.
Ann scoffed~You’ve always pulled your punches with us. I doubt you’ll make us puke our breakfast.
Kakashi~Are you sure you want to risk that? That’s true, but going against all of them will require focus…
Ann took a double take. He almost never challenges her back.
Kakashi smiled and waved.
Kakashi~Bring your ninja gear. I’ll see y’all tomorrow morning.
He flickered away.
Ravi~Do you think he’s serious?
Ann~I can’t tell…
Sakura~Why do you think he’d lie?
Ann~He always lies with me.
Sakura~Really? Always?
She crossed her arms and Ann rolled her eyes.
Ann~Fine, fine, but it’s more times than not.
Naruto~Why does it matter? You could probably take him down by yourself anyway.
Sasuke~He’s still a jounin. Even if Ann can physically overpower him, he’d still have the experience to counter it.
Ann~Ravi, are you thinking what I’m thinking?
Ravi~Are we gonna go shopping?!
Sakura~What for? Clothes?
Ann rolled her eyes again.
Ann~Weapons, you ditz. Some armor would be a good idea too. Who knows what kind of jutsus he can use…
Ravi~We can get wire too, right?
Ann~Yeah. Just remember you can’t take any. I don’t want Aniki grounding you again.

The next morning, the five of them met at the training grounds at 5:00 am like Kakashi said. But their sensei wasn’t there. Not even 5 minutes later, or 5 hours. He didn’t show up until 6 hours after they arrived.
Naruto~Why the hell are you late?!
Kakashi~Oh, you know. Black cat crossed my path, so I had to take the long way.
Ravi~Get on with it. What are we doing?
Kakashi~Like I said, we’re doing a survival exercise. You guys need to retrieve these bells before this alarm goes off at noon.
He showed the bells, and Ann looked up upon hearing only three.
Ann~There isn’t enough for all of us, Kakashi.
Sakura~Yeah, why is that? What’s the catch?
Kakashi~The ones who gets a bell will stay to make Team 7. The other two will be sent back to the academy.
Sasuke~What happens if no one gets the bells?
Kakashi~Oh, that’s easy. You guys get tied to these posts and watch me eat lunch. Basically, no bell, no lunch, no promotion.
Ann~No wonder he said no breakfast…This was purposeful…
She huffed and pulled her bag over.
Sakura~What are you doing? What are those?!
Kakashi~Eager to get started?
Ann~Less than hour to get the bells. Full power. All out. I’m going to ******** kill you.
Ravi~You need to pull back, Ann.
Naruto~No, let her. That’ll make it easier to get the bells then. Even if she doesn’t kill him, he’ll tire out.
Kakashi~You won’t be able to kill me. I’m surprisingly hard to kill.
Ann had already ignored them in favor of packing and swapping weapons that were already on her person. She even tossed a few weapons for Ravi.
Sakura~It’s like a portable arsenal…Is this everything you two bought yesterday?
Kakashi~Anyways, you have until the alarm goes off to get the bells. You need to come at me with killing intent to have a chance.
Ann~Shut up, so I can plan. I need 5 minutes.
Kakashi sighed~You guys better gear up too. 5 minutes.

They got together again after a few minutes. He reviewed the intent of the exercise and goals they needed to achieve and the constraints they had. Kakashi focused on Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura first, as they were the least likely to work together. Ann and Ravi were a duo, and he genuinely doubted they’d separate. He put his book away to mitigate the chance of it getting burned, sighed, and went to find the girls.
He went towards the stream, expecting Ann to be near a water source. One of her favorite haunting grounds was the waterfall near one of teh forest training grounds.
Just before he got to the edge of the tree line, he noticeda tripwire.
Kakashi scoffed~How sloppy of them.
He stepped over it, and his foot caught on a hidden tripwire, causing an explosion that threw him into the open.
Kakashi~Who the hell taught them how to set these traps?!
He quickly recovered and just barely dodged the girls’ pincer attack.
Ravi~Almost.
Ann~Gotta push and not give room.
They rushed in again, weapons drawn. Kakashi blocked them both, and mangaged to throw Ann into the water while he pinned Ravi.
Kakashi~I really thought you two might catch me, but I’m glad to know that I haven’t lost my edge.
Ravi tried to throw him off, but Kakashi pressed her into the ground.
Ann~Best let her go, Kakashi.
She climbed on top of the water.
Kakashi~You’ve always been the mastermind, Ann, and occasionally the enforcer. You can’t always be both. Definitely not here.
Ravi~Let go!
Ann watched her make another attempt to break free, but Kakashi dug his knee into her, making her call out. He didn’t put a lot of pressure into her, but he was pressing into her soft tissue to make it more than uncomfortable.
Ann~Ravi!
Kakashi~You hesitated. In a real fight with nothing to negotiate, she would have died already.
Ann~Then I won’t hesitate.
She disappeared from sigh, a light mist covering the ground. Kakashi carefully looked around, suspicious that he wasn’t immediately attacked.
Kakashi~Stalling is no good either. Unless you’re running away. Abandonment is just as bad if not worse. Getting your–
He got knocked off of Ravi. Kakashi rolled once and got up again before Ann pressed into another attack. Ravi slowly got up, rubbing her side from where Kakashi was pressing.
Ann~I don’t abandon friends.
Kakashi~Your anger is also a liability. You need so much control that you lose it too easily when you hear something you don’t like.
Ann pulled out a tonto mid attack and swung faster. The mist at their feet also started to, but enough to notice yet.
Kakashi~See? You’re losing it. You’ll end up killing everyone and you’ll have only yourself to blame.
Ann knocked the kunai out of his hand. Then Kakashi noticed the change in her chakra and the look in her eyes and was forced to be on the defensive.
Ravi~Ann! Pull back! You promised not to go overboard!
Kakashi evaded Ann’s attacks, but she was attacking too violently for him to retaliate yet, and then two clones flanked him on either side. He let them hit, substituted out, and stuck all three Anns, causing them to turn into water.
Kakashi~Water clones and water substitution? She’s lost it to have resorted to using her jutsus.
At this point, Kakashi noticed the mist affecting his vision.
Ravi~Ann! Fall back! I’m already free!
Kakashi was then knocked to the ground and fought against Ann trying to press the tonto down.
Because of the build up of chakra, Ravi found them and pushed Ann off of Kakashi. Ann got up and stared Ravi down, but she didn’t move yet.
Kakashi watched, planning how to take Ann down with Sharingan if she moved towards her friend.
Then, the alarm went off with a piercing ring, making Ann flinch and cover her ears. The mist around them faltered for a split moment, then slowly disappeared.
Ravi~Ann?
Kakashi~Are you lucid?
Ann tried to even out her breathing, then slowly removed her hands and nodded, not looking up.
Ann~Sorry…
Kakashi~Once the exercise is over, we’ll talk. Let’s get the others and go back to the clock.

Back at the stone, Kakashi had tied Naruto to the post while the other four stood nearby, stomachs growling.
Kakashi~You guys sound hungry. Well, it’s a good thing I decided that you guys aren’t going back to the academy.
Sakura~Really? We passed?
Naruto~We did it? We did it!
Kakashi~That’s not why. It’s because I can’t let you guys continue being a ninja. None of you meet the requirements.
Sasuke charged at him, but Kakashi easily pinned him to the ground.
Kakashi~You guys know nothing about being a ninja, and the two that do only pass because of their skill. However, they still failed because one is loyal to a fault and the other lost sight of the objective in favor of eliminating the threat.
Naruto~What?! Ann and Ravi can pass?!
Kakashi~It was expected that they had the skills. You’ve seen how they operate first hand throughout your academy years. Their test didn’t measure that. Yours did, along with Sakura and Sasuke.
He paused to make sure they were still following along. He only got blank stares, so he let out a sigh.
Kakashi~The bell test evaluates you on teamwork! You three could have probably done it had you teamed up with each other or the demon duo. And you two, you work together just fine, but fractured the moment you were separated and then fell apart when things went sideways and out of control.
Sakura~Wait! But even with all of that, you still only give us three bells to form a proper team. We’d still have to fight Ann and Ravi for the remaining bell even if they got it from you. Kakashi~That’s exactly the point. The actual test in a normal setting would still do that as there would be two bells and three of you. You’re supposed to put the squad ahead of yourself and prioritize teamwork.
He pressed Sasuke into the ground as he critiqued each of them.
Kakashi~Sakura, you obsessed over Sasuke’s disappearance over helping Naruto. Naruto, you ran off on your own to do EVERYTHING by yourself. Sasuke, you thought everyone else was so far beneath you to consider working with them.
He stopped pressing then turned to Ann and Ravi.
Kakashi~Ravi, you rely too heavily on Ann and couldn’t figure out a way to free yourself without help. Ann, you became a liability when someone figures out just the right buttons to push to challenge your control. Putting yourself first could lead to failure or even death. Such as this…
He pulled out a kunai and held it to Sasuke’s face.
Kakashi~Sakura, I want you to kill Naruto or Sasuke dies.
Ann started to move forward, but Kakashi was already pulling away and stood up.
Kakashi~In a hostage situation like that, you’re forced into an impossible situation and someone ends up dead. On every mission, your lives will be on the line.
He turned from them and looked at the memorial stone.
Kakashi~Have you guys ever looked at this and read the names? Every name is a ninja who is honored as a hero in our village.
Naruto~That’s awesome! I want my name written there too! I want to be recognized as a hero as well!
Ravi~That’s not what he meant. All of those people were KAI’d.
Kakashi~Correct.
Naruto~That sounds cool though!
Ann~You’re being stupid again. It stands for killed in action. That’s…It’s a way to go. Better than being a coward at least…
Naruto groaned in realization.
Kakashi~Tell you what, I’ll give you another chance. You’ll have three hours to get a bell. Eat up to get your strength, but Naruto doesn’t get any. That’s his punishment for trying to eat lunch by himself when he couldn’t get a bell.
Ravi~You idiot…
Kakashi~If anyone feeds him, that person fails. Do I make myself clear?
Ann scoffed~Stupid rules…
Kakashi~You have twenty minutes. I’ll be back soon.
He poofed out.

The four each grabbed a bento and started to eat.
Sakura~Ann?
Ann nodded for her to continue.
Sakura~Sensei said you were going to eliminate the threat. What did he mean?
Ann~Don’t ask questions you’re not ready to hear the answer to.
Naruto’s stomach grumbled.
Naruto~I’m fine! You guys eat. I can go all day without food!
His stomach growled again and he sighed. Sasuke sighed too and held out the bento to the blond.
Sakura~You can’t feed him! Kakashi said not to!
Sasuke~He isn’t here to stop us. We need Naruto to gain his strength too so we can get the bells. We can’t rely on just Ann and Ravi to carry the team.
Sakura~Yeah…You’re right…
Ravi~You know, we can probably portion out a little from each of our bentos so he’d have enough to eat.
Ann was the first to transfer some of her lunch to the lid and passed it to Ravi, who did the same. Ravi then passed it to Sasuke, and Sakura was the last to add to it.
Sakura~Here, Naruto. Hurry up and eat.
Naruto~I-I would, but I can’t move my arms! You’re gonna have to feed me!
Sakura~No way!
Sasuke~Just do it. We don’t have time.
Sakura~F-fine. This one time!
She started to feed Naruto. Ann’s ear twitched, and then there was a gust of wind and lots of smoke with Kakashi raising his voice at them.
Kakashi~You brats! You went against my one rule. I hope you’re ready for the punishment.
He made some hand signs and storm clouds appeared behind him.
Ann~The rule is detrimental to the team, just like the limited bells.
Naruto~And you said we were a team! So, so…
Sasuke~We’re all on this squad, and we’re in it together.
Ravi~That’s right! We pooled our meals together to feed Naruto!
Sakura~Yeah! We’re a unit and we stick together!
Kakashi~And that’s your excuse?! You’re a unit and stick together?
They all grunted in agreement. He chuckled and then smiled, speaking calmly.
Kakashi~You guys pass.
Sakura~We passed? But…the rules.
Kakashi~You’re right, rules are important, and every potential team I had followed my instructions to the letter, but they also fell for every trick in the book. A shinobi still needs to think for themselves and see through deception.
His gaze shifted upwards.
Kakashi~Shinobi who break the rules are trash, but those who abandon their friends are worse than trash.
Ann~Did you really doubt that I’d leave Ravi?
Kakashi~Of course not, Ann. The point was to jab at your ego.
Naruto~Who cares? We passed! We’re ninjas! I’m a ninja!
Kakashi~Yup. And we can officially start missions tomorrow as Team 7.
