May 14th
The first time I crossed over was only an accident.
I had woken in the middle of the night to find that my stomach had a horrible pain. "MOM!" Was all I could manage to yell as I pushed my hand onto my stomach to surpress that sharp pressing pain.
I could hear my mother running up the stairs in a frenzy I had only seen a few times in all my life.
I remember the very first time I'd ever seen her in that rush of maternal instinct. I had been playing on the monkey bars at the WillowWood park just down the street from my home. I was playing with my friend whom I'd known since the day I was born. is name was Shane Culling. We were just playing a game of Bar-tag when he climbed to the very top of the humungous set of monkey bars... A part of the monkey bars I was afraid to go. "Come on Shells!" He called to me, placing his hand out to give me some support. I stood ontop of a bar, a foot below and reached out to grab onto his hand. "I'm gunna fall!" I yelled. His hand came down and slowly began to pull me up... and that... was when he lost his grip.
Suddenly, Everything around me was moving up and away... as I fell to the ground... a sickening crunch as I landed onto my left arm.
That was when mom switched into wonderwoman to come and save me.
That was what I was feeling now... as she rushed up the stairs to save me from the excruciating pain that was flowing through my stomach and side.
"Shelly? Whats wrong honey?" My mother said as she came rushing into my bedroom. She was the perfect form of a mother, Her soft green eyes reminded me of the trees in the park on a summer day. Her hair was just like the beautiful brown wood that lay under the bark on the surface. It didn't matter where dad was when mom was in supermode... I always felt safe with her.
"Mom. My stomach hurts... Its in my side too."
My mother gave me a comforting smile and wiped the hair away from my eyes.
"It sounds like appendicitis."
Within minutes my mother had me in the car. I had the seat reclined and the my floral print blanket wrapped around me. I watched the light from the streetlamps run over the dash one moment there, the next gone. I watched the endless struggle between the darkness and the streetlamps' lights until they lulled me to sleep.
When I had woken up... There were many unfamiliar faces surrounding me.
"She woke up Dr. C" I heard a woman's voice say clearly. Apparently the knew it was appendicitis and had decided to perform my surgery.
"Give her some fetanyl." The man on my right hand side said.
I don't exactly know what happened but I was suddenly weightless. The feeling was better than anything I'd ever felt before.
But then, I looked down. When I looked down I saw the doctors running almost as if in slow motion. Below me on the table... was my body.
"OOOH NOW YOU'VE DONE IT!" I said with a laugh, as I did a weightless somersault. "You've gone and killed me!"
I continued my laughing and playing as the doctors rushed out of the room to go and get the Efibulator. I let myself slowly float down to get a better look at myself. It was more realistic than even a mirror could be. I could see every pore and eyelash. It was all so vivid.
Thats when it struck me. "If they had taken this long... I'd be dead for hours!" My mind slowly put this together. "Time here... is different... Longer."
I continued to play around and enjoy my freedom from my human mass.
My peace and harmony was brokenby the words ringing through the air. "CLEAR"
And in those very moments.. I felt the worst pain i'd ever felt. I was coming back to my mortal body. The weightless feeling was gone, and I was seeping back through every pore and hair. And there I was back to being a humanoid mass. I could feel the mortal pain again. My skin had suddenly become sensitive to everything.
That was the first time I'd broken through the barriers between Life and what lies beyond.
