If anyone is curious about my trip, I wrote a bit about it on my website. Photos are still coming and then need to be processed, but I'll be posting them up on my site and DA when I'm happy with them. It's good to be back! I should be back to modding again in a few days when the powers-that-be have time to re-mod me, then its back to the usual purpleness. Apologies to anyone I frustrated by having my PMs closed, they are now open again so please feel free to bug me =D

Jakobo has kick started the New Year with a weekly writing prompt thinger, and as someone who usually fills their (many) journals with mainly boring and meaningless crap I think its a great idea to have a prompt at something a bit more interesting.
So here goes with the first every Weekly Writer:
Quote:
Welcome to the new year! In typical "new year" fashion, what's the one thing you intend to do in the coming year? Why is it important to you that you do it?
Gah, this is sounding a lot like a New Year's resolution! I've never been a huge fan of New Year's resolutions, especially as I seem to fail on mine within a few days. Possibly because I tend to make the usual resolutions I seem to make and fail all throughout the year - lose weight, work harder on drawing, try to be less selfish, train harder...
I guess in a way its nice to have a fresh start at the start of the year. If I fail again maybe I can try again from Chinese New Year at least smile
Alrighty, so on topic. It's so hard to choose just a single goal that's the most important to me, because there are so many things. So I'll just choose one that encompasses many of my goals - to be more creative and work more with my creative pursuits.
I think I'm at the point where I can truly call myself a graphic designer (it says so on my business cards!), but there are still so many gaps in my knowledge that I need to fill, so far I need to go before I can be on par with the best in the field and apply for some larger and more successful design companies. I want to get better at drawing and stretch my limits, rather than drawing the same old anime people in the same old boring poses. I want expression, realism, interesting lighting, dynamic poses, believable anatomy, engaging characters and beautiful composition. I want to look more into other mediums and style rather than sticking with what I'm comfortable - I want to explore Chinese calligraphy, master my barely-touched copics, try out real paint, look into tshirt and sneaker design and screen printing, work more on my ideas with designer toys and character merchandising. I want to take my limited photography skills further, in particular the post-production part so I can use those skills at work to create better designs involving photographs.
Now that I've written all that up, I think I'll rephrase my blanket goal: I want to push my limits artistically and go further with them. And I think that's something that I won't fail at.

xd Sorry! I couldn't help myself...
I love Impressionist art myself. Monet! <3
I think with so many goals you shouldn't pile it so high! I would start on the easy stuff first and make plans to do other stuff later on in the year. I know when I have a lot of work I tend to just gonk at it all.
Did that make sense? XD;
