could see them through the screen, through the orange and red crayon streaks and the pencil holes. They had lived in my room before we added the new wing and as kids they'd crayoned the screen and shoved pencils through it. Flies and sometimes mosquitoes came in and I cussed them for it, at night when I could hear the miniscule whine near my ear. I put masking tape over the holes, but it never held for long.
I had the fan blowing over my bed and my bare legs and back; I was wearing a new bandana-patterned halter, like Mom's, that tied behind the neck with strings that tickled my back. My hair was a bob for the summer. I hated it. It made me look like a twerp, but Mom was right - it did keep the pricklies off my neck and shoulders. She said it would grow back by September.
I couldn't stand the heat. Humditty, Sam called it. He was big and rowed on the college varsity. I got dragged to races to stand in mud and shiver in wind and I hated it, but back at the boathouse he always grabbed me by the waist and launched me high over his head, probably to show off how strong he was. I dreaded that he would hug me because he stank after the races. Usually his team lost, though, so he didn't always hug me. Ralph - it wasn't even his real name. He changed his name every so often, I think because of that kid in A Thousand Clowns, the one up for adoption and at loose ends.
hah
I opened my eyes and looked around. I was in my bedroom. It was just a dream. I sat up and lifted the covers off me. I watched the sheets rise and fall to the steady breathing of Logan. Quietly, I got out of bed, not wanting to disturb him. I looked at the clock. 4:30 a.m. Today was my day off, and I was up early. Great. But I couldn't go back to sleep, not then. I grabbed the folder that held my new assignment in it, and tiptoed to the kitchen. I poured myself a cup of the coffee, adding sugar and cream. I sat down and opened the folder. It was empty. I then realized that it was the folder I was supposed to put case summaries in. The case summaries that I never seemed to get around to doing.

"Blonde moment," I said to myself, even though my hair was nowhere close to being blonde. I blamed it instead on my lack of sleep.

I grabbed a blank sheet of paper and began writing everything I could remember from my dream down. I have always had clairvoyant dreams, even when I was little, and I knew that every one of my dreams meant something.
I woke up the next morning feeling energized. I hadn't had the nightmare, so I had actually gotten some sleep. Not that I had needed it much after sleeping most of the day before. I got up and put on jean shorts and a blue shirt, because I wanted to be comfortable for training with the new guy. I kissed Logan goodbye, and told him that I would be home early so that I could actually cook dinner.

When I arrived at the office, I hung up my coat and went to the box. I had a lot of paperwork to do. Great, I needed something to keep my mind off of the meet. At three o'clock, right on time, Robert came to get me. He towered over me, like almost everyone else, since I was only five feet four inches tall. He was like six feet...something.

We down to the training room in silence, which wasn't like us as all. We were partners, friends, and had known each other since the preteen years. He was only 25, a year older than me.
As I was setting the table, the doorbell rang, and Logan answered it. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Logan and Robert embrace in a friendly hug. Lord knew Robert hadn't been to visit him in a month because of business, girlfriends, life. I then saw Caleb walk in behind Robert. Robert must have given him a ride here, I thought, Since I forgot to give him directions.

I saw Robert introduce Caleb and Logan to each other. They shook hands and I smiled, knowing everything would be all right.

"So, what did your lovely wife make for dinner?" Robert asked Logan.

I smiled at Logan. "She made spaghetti, since it's your favorite. But there's also garlic bread, I think," he answered
woke to Logan's gentle caresses. I turned on my side to face him, and he kissed my forehead, my nose, each cheek, and then my lips.

"Morning, sweetheart. How did you sleep?" he asked. His voice was still husky from sleep. I sighed.

"I love you," I said, cuddling up next to him.

"I love you, too. So much," he said, wrapping his arms around me.

I nearly fell asleep, again. It felt so good to relax in his arms. But the moment was interrupted by the constant ringing of the doorbell.

"We need to start hiding the cars," he said.

I laughed. No doubt if the cars were out of sight, people would give up and think we weren't home. I sat up and searched for my nightgown while Logan searched for his clothes too. He found his shirt in a pile near the bedroom door. I gave up my search, and put on a pair of shorts and a tee shirt insteadI braced myself for a life threatening disease, forming a plan to tell Logan.

"Mrs. Michael, you are perfectly healthy," he told me.

I began to breathe more easily, but I knew there was more. "Okay, so what else?" I asked impatiently.

"It seems that you are 4 weeks pregnant," he said, watching my frown turn into a smile.

"I'm pregnant!" I let the words roll off my tongue. "I can't wait to tell Logan that he's going to be a father!"

Then it hit me. My dreams, my life, had totally changed. Maybe the making of the baby was what had changed the future. Thank the lord. I couldn't control my happiness. I couldn't tell Logan over the phone though, it wouldn't be appropriate. I decided to wait until he came back.
